Anorexia

Quote From: emarumom

I am 48 and my doctors think I have a eating disorder.  I just don't want to eat.  i lost over 60 pounds because of problems following a hysterectomy but don't think i look any different even though clothes don't fit.  It's easier to not eat than deal with a possible intestional obstruction.  i have an ileostomy and that coupled with the heat of the deep south make dehydration a problem.

Boy don't I know what the deep heat of the south feels like--- I'm in Houston texas which is gah, SOO HOT!

But hun, if your doctors think you have it...then you very well may have. Have you stop to think that maybe you might be in denial? Has any of the 'fears' seem huge now (thinking about eating food), any irrational thinking patterns? Try the EAT test (online eating disorder test), if anything research up on it because chances are--- you might be in denial or not yet recognizing an on-set of a problem.

Try and get a handle on this before it gets out of control...can you imagine yo-yo weight (lost & gains of 50 pounds over and over) due to refeeding & then getting out--starting over etc? Can you imagine health problems even worse than what you have (trust me they get worse and so bad that you probably may not come out of it alive-- I ought to know). It might help to seek some professional help (2nd opinion) from some specialist that deals with Eating disorder and see what they have to say. Go with an open mind and learn from this.

Check this site out... this kills me everytime & my friend is on there right now

good luck & god bless

Hi,

I was just wondering, do you eat and get fluids in? Do you refuse food? I am no doctor but it sounds like a panic/ phobia problem, the reason I say this is, the fear of the intestinal obstruction COULD be what is preventing you from eating. Did you feel this way before or anytime in your life before the hysterectomy? I have  you ever had an eating disorder or problem before that?

It really doesn't seem like you have one as it seems more like your body is still adjusting to the trauma of surgery and that couple with fear on intestinal obstrution may be causing you not to eat.

Juat  a thought.

i just watched the show on anorexia and saw myself there. i am a 51 yr. old male who , for about 6 or 7 years fought a losing battle with this disease. after counseling and working with a nutritionlist, finally was able to get on the path to healing. i never thought that there would be a chance of ever breaking the horrendous grip this disease has. i never thought it was possible to ever recover and to eat like a normal person. but there is and i finally did it. i can now eat normally, without fear. all the ritualsitic behavior of the anorexic has gone....there is hope and it is a disease you can fight and win.

I wanted you to know you are going thru some major life-altering proceedures.  I will let you know that ever since I hit my 30ies,  my body slowed down.  Although I do have a 'bread basket' I do accept my age,  and I still excercise to help myself feel better
