The difference is It can get you killed

Quote From: emerydean

Come on.......I am 53 years old...I was born and raised in Auburn, AL and blacks call each other the "N" word ALL THE TIME.....so...if they want everybody else to stop....WHY DON'T THEY??????????????????????????????????? HE ISN'T THE FIRST AND WON'T BE THE LAST...LET IT GO...the man says he's sorry and he's does more good than bad.

Dog, when blacks use the name, it has a totally different meaning. When other people use it, it is meant to degrade you as a human being and to say, there's something less than human about you. My ex girl friend, who was black would once in a while call me the "N" name, but the meaning she has in mind is not what the bounty hunter had. The "N" word dehumanizes and makes it alright to view the person as some kind of animal.

When is it racist?

Quote From: emerydean

Come on.......I am 53 years old...I was born and raised in Auburn, AL and blacks call each other the 'N' word ALL THE TIME.....so...if they want everybody else to stop....WHY DON'T THEY??????????????????????????????????? HE ISN'T THE FIRST AND WON'T BE THE LAST...LET IT GO...the man says he's sorry and he's does more good than bad.
It is far different when a black person calls his brother or sister in color N***** than when we say the N word.  They say it different. They mean it differently.  Come on you all know this.  If I were to go up to my girl friend and call her a ho, it would be a joke and she would call me something back.  My daughter and her friend do it all the time- it is funny to them.  It is not serious.  When Black people call each other the N word I think it is almost a coming together of minds - we are the same and we can say it- we have made the word ours- but when a non black person says it- it is racist.

If I go up to a white person I know and call him a honkie or a cracker- we would laugh.  If a black person says it, it is offensive.  Ok do you understand now?

11/09 Debate Dr. Phil and the Bishop

Yes and I grew up in rural NC from slave owning descendants and in Detroit with the 'yankees'.

I heard the N word every single day of my life until I was 13 years old.

I was told "N's" were BELOW US, scum of the earth, only good for working in cotton/tobacco/cucumber/strawberry fields.......they were NOT to be associated with under ANY circumstances period.

Meanwhile my mother was picking tobacco, strawberries, cucumbers and she is white.

Blacks lived like pigs yet we didn't have indoor plumbing in the late 60's well into the mid 70's. My own grandmother didn't get an indoor bathroom until 1978!

Yet 'N's' were BELOW us.

It didn't take a second to realize that the hate we were being TAUGHT was hypocritical and WRONG!

I vowed as a child that my children would NEVER see color and NEVER be taught the N word or that being WHITE was RIGHT.

My children grew up in a home that looked like the United Nations summit meeting. Black, white, hispanic,Thai, Muslim, Buddist, Jewish, Christian........it DID NOT MATTER!

My children were taught to look at a persons HEART, not the skin color covering it. My granddaughter is being raised the same way.

HATE NO RACE, HATE NO COLOR, HATE NO RELIGION. HATE NO ONE.

Just because it was taught to me didn't make me buy into it nor pass it on to another generation.

I also come from a long line of alcoholics.....so I didn't drink. My children don't drink.

I also grew up in severe child abuse, sexual abuse and watched spousal abuse daily.......and I managed to not pass those horrible traits down to another generation.

Just because you hear the N word doesn't mean you have to SAY IT.

Just because you were beaten doesn't mean you have to be a BEATER.

You get my drift.

I'm 42, I saw the 'white only' and blacks went to the backdoor of every establishment.

I'm again living in NC after being gone 28 years.......things have changed quite a bit and I'm PROUD of the changes in people, but they still have a long way to go.

I shuttle college students (all sorts of races)  and YES... the blacks call each other the "N" word ALL the time!!! so I totally agree...In the 'olden' days , back in the 60's ,,didn't 'they' used to call us white trash.?..I havent heard that used in a while, but if they called me that..I wouldnt care...I heard Bishop Jakes say something to the effect that networks  have the responsibility  to represent everyone re: TV that express views and attitudes that are detrimental to people in general.. well personally...I still wonder how and why MTV is still on....

A Hot Mess...

I really wish people would stop using the excuse "Blacks use the word all the time"

I am "black".  I don't use or condone use of the n-word by anybody--and neither do my friends.

While I feel sorry for this family and what they're experiencing, I do feel like he should never have landed himself in that mess in the first place.  He called that girl a f*** n***.  I was hurt just hearing about someone else referred to that way.  I know Dog is unconventional but I always thought he stood for good things.  I still think he has a sense of what is right and wrong but this dirty little secret was just waiting to be exposed.  Perhaps he'll learn a lesson from this that won't cost his children their bread and butter.  I hope that this causes a real change in his way of thinking and not just "I'm sorry I got caught."

Also, the fact that he's done more "good than bad" doesn't really mean that he shouldn't be held accountable for this kind of thing.

Again, PLEASE stop trying to say that black people (as if we're some lump of people) call eachother the n-word.  First of all, there is a history tied to the use in the black community and while as I said, I do not condone it, it is actually a bit different than what would be meant by someone who isn't black in saying it.  Again, I don't use the word or allow people to use it around me, and I'm black.  All together, it's a horrible word that speaks nothing but the worst kind of abuse and hatred.

I wish him and the girl's family some healing because sadly enough, nobody wins in situations like these.

53 years now means 6 in 1960

This is you problem, you grew up with the n.... word. Everyone does not use that word, but I bet you do and you did not use it because you heard blacks. The people you heard were probably clan members. What is your excuse for the Federal Mashalls forcing your schools to let Blacks past and Vote rights. You're not sorry ad neither is he. How many Blacks live in your old Auburn, Al neighborhood.

I bet you call your wife bitch, but you probably would even fight  a white man if he called her a bitch.

Were you one of those people who thought OJ Simpson should get sentencd to death, not for murder, but for marrying a white woman.

The N word is a word Southern whites used, projecting their own inferiority complex. and inadequacies. In reality Southern whites felt inferior to their Northern counterparts. Southern whites even developed the term Uppity"N" for the Blacks who had the audacity to get more education and wealth than them.

You see when anyone, Black or White, uses the word, it is out of ignorance or self-hate.

Are you ready to say "Sorry" for he cross burnings, white only places, noose hangings, and hangings which were  a part of Alabama?
