I was able to read your message....

Quote From: michelebr

Most 18 year olds don't understand what it means to love someone and surely her parents warned her that women have no rights in the Middle East.  It's too bad she is going through this and maybe this experience will help her prevent a worse situation in the future.  I am sorry for the pain and suffering her parents are experiencing.

You are ASSUMING that her parents told her about the way women are treated in that culture, but she also may NOT have wanted to hear that or thought they were just trying to make an excuse to keep her home.  I feel she probably was so blinded and lied to by the boyfriend that she didn't want to believe anyone but him.

Would everyone be so upset if Abdullah was a guy named Pierre in France?  Granted he comes from a different culture, but these things can work if both families are supportive.  I wouldn't want my child in a war zone, but I don't think Abdullah is the devil incarnate like it seems he's being portrayed.  Couldn't this be as simple as two young people falling in love and wanting to be together no matter the obstacles.  Didn't Shakespeare write about this very thing in Romeo & Juliette?  I was married to an Israeli and now am dating a Bosnian Muslim.  Islam can be positive as long as the religious person isn't an extremist, same as in Christianity or Judaism.  I wish for all involved happiness, and a long life in peace.  Salaam, Shalom.

i understand that her family is worried, but why do they have to be so worried about her being in palestine??   the girl is in love!! and yes shes young, but you cant control love... and what im here to say is that if it were paris or austrillia or maybe any where out of the middle east, maybe it would'nt of been a big deal!!! getting a visa now a days isn't  easy for us arabs!!  especially in palestine look at what they are going through. and what im really mad about, is thAT you Dr. Phil are with this, you and her family are making us arabs look bad!!!  this is great for her to go and seek the world, if he's not the one, then ok.. the girl learns a lesson.. and its like you guys are all on him on being the "BAD GUY".... shes the one who ran to the other side of this world to go and find him.  why dont you look at her like she's the wrong one?? since this whole situation is all bad.. thank you for taking your time to read my letter.

It is simply not true that women have no rights in the Midde East. The Middle East is made up over many countries, each with their own laws. Please do research before writing such statements.
