You should adopt...just relax...go on vacation...

Quote From: nance61

have you thought about adoption?  there are so many unwanted children all over the world

The famous comments from people who have never dealt with infertility!  Of course adoption is an option...everyone knows it...it doesn't even need to be suggested.   But infertility is a long hard road...and just throwing out a "solution" is truly an ignorant statement.  A person doesn't just jump from being infertile to adopting...there are many emotional hurdles they must get through first...not the least of which is excepting that you will never have a biological child of your own.  Oh...and adoption laws around the country are changing making even that option so much more difficult.

Dr. Phil...your guest wasn't the only one who cringed when you told her she needs to relax!!  Yes...of course being able to relax when you are faced with the possibility that you may never have the child you are so desparate for would be ideal...but anyone who has been through it knows it is virtually impossible!!

I personally have been through 6 iuis...and 4 IVFs and am fortunate to have two beautiful children to show for our efforts!  It was the hardest thing I have ever had to deal with...phyisically, emotionally, and financially.!

All children are wanted

Just because not all children are planned doesn't mean that they are not wanted!!!!!!

I am a birth mother of a beautiful 14-year-old girl.  I was young and made very poor choices and found myself pregnant.  Because I love my child I gave her to a family who could provide for her in a way that I wasn't able to at the time, both financially and emotionally.

This is not to say that adoption should be the answer to all these people who are working so hard to conceive.  I cannot even imagine the difficulties that they cope with on a daily basis.

exactly what I kept saying at the screen the whole show!  Why didn't Dr. Phil even touch on it?  I think it's rather selfish, myself, to spend all kinds of money on trying to get pregnant when there are so many parentless children in this world that you could love.  I understand that being pregnant is a big experience that many women don't want to miss out on, but just think that men don't get that experience and they don't complain about it!

P.S. It's really hard to type on this site... it skips every other letter I press, it seems, so I have to press it again.

Spoken like someone w/ no I/F experience

While your message may have intended to make the poster feel better, it has shown that you have not only had no experience with the heartache of I/F, but you've also not researched the cost of adoption, which is often times as much or much more than infertility treatments.

After trying to conceive for 6 years, I've done everything my finances would allow in order to have a baby. I am not one of the I/F patients out there who has infertility insurance.

If you've researched adoption, you would realize that adoption is also an unsure thing and very expensive, not to mention the emotional hurdles you need to jump before you're ready to start that equally tough process.

If someone came up to me and offered me $16,0000 so that I could adopt, believe me, I'd take it. It's not as easy as just deciding you want to do it, unfortunatelly.
