(Original Air Date: 05/08/06) Karen is a stay-at-home mother of five who says her anger is out of control. She fears that if she doesn't get help right now, she'll fly off the deep end and do permanent damage to her children. Cameras placed in her home capture an alarming day in the life of Karen and her kids as she degrades and rages at them, and physically abuses her 10-year-old son, Brandon. Karen's husband, Jim, who says he has no idea what goes on in their home while he's at work, sees the home footage for the first time. What is his reaction? Then, hear from Brandon and his 9-year-old sister, Shayna, who describe what it's like to be a small child on the other side of a mother's intense rage. And, what did they tearfully tell the producers about how their dad disciplines them? Plus, Dr. Phil shows how Karen's 3-year-old twins are coping with their fear. Some viewers have raised questions about whether the Dr. Phil show reported Jim and Karen to the authorities after the taping of this show. Other viewers have expressed surprise that Karen and Jim's children were allowed to go home with them after the show.

Please be assured that immediately following the taping of "A Mother's Rage," the Dr. Phil show did make a report to local child protection authorities. As a mental health professional, Dr. Phil is required by law to make such a report if he has concerns about the safety, welfare or well being of a child. However, Dr. Phil does not himself have the authority to remove children from their parents' home.

Remember that a lot happens after the taping of a show that TV viewers never get to see.  Dr. Phil's staff draws on a vast network of experts and mental health professionals to help Dr. Phil guests. Karen's family is just one of many to have received this assistance.

these children r damaged for life!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Those children should have been taken out of that home immediately! Just because the father says hes not going to leave them alone with her means nothing. Someone will end up hurt there. It makes me totally sick that the welfare of those innocent children is being taken so lightly!!!!!

They are Both Child Abusers !!!

This morning I was watching and emailing the show at the same time because I was so horrified.  I am the mother of five sons.  Three are grown and two died at early ages (8 months and 11 months).  Children are a precious gift that should be cherished - you don't know how long you will have them to raise.  It is now almost 7PM and I am still outraged.  I cried through the entire show and still can't talk about it without crying.  I cannot believe Dr. Phil, who to me is all wise, would take that abusive father's word to keep the children safe from their mother.  Who is going to keep the children safe from the father???    I can't stand how people like this always have an excuse.  If you were treated with such violence while growing up, then you should certainly know how it feels and would not want to inflict it on your own children.  I can't stop worrying about those innocent children.  We all need an update as soon as possible.  Those children should have been immediately removed from the parents.  Have the cameras been removed?  Sorry to ramble on and on, but I can't get beyond this.  We need more assurance that those children are safe, not just the word of their vicious father.

Take the kids away!

Wow! I have never felt so strongly about a show! I was so disgusted by this horrible mom! I actually felt sick to my stomach while watching how she treats her children. This women does not deserve to have children! Those children do not deserve to live with her! And her tears don't change that! All I have to say is Dr. Phil take those kids away!!!!! And fast!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am so so upset after watching this show!  I have never come to the boards before until I watched this episode!  Dr. Phil was not hard enough on that monster!  Those kids need to be put into foster care NOW!!!!  I do not trust that monster or the husband and it WILL happen again!  I kept waiting and waiting for Dr Phil to cut loose on her but he never did!  I wanted to jump the next flight to LA to deal with her myself!!!!!  I am outraged and I hope DFS REMOVES THE KIDS FOR A LONG PERIOD UNTIL SHE PROVES SHE HAS GOTTEN TREATMENT..BUT I DON'T THINK SHE WILL EVER CHANGE AND WILL ALWAYS BE AN ABUSER!!!!!!   Sorry for the yelling but i cannot help it!!!!!

   How come people think this is about HATE? I know about this kind of RAGE, and it is about expectation. When a parent has kids they have this picture of how it should be, when it's not then anger is their logical attack.   

   I left my family when I finally saw it come to a head. Now this sounds as an excuse but it is real. I grew up on American TV shows, Father Knows Best, Leave It To Beaver and Patty Duke Show to name a few. I saw a FATHER who was loved and respected yet his character was the one who was warned of when trouble was in the air. The hug and kiss as he walked in the door was what I wanted when  I came home. Not a "you need to go out again because I need this". This was a game my wife would play, she knew how I hurt physically and all she could do was send me out. The hug and kiss I expected was never there, I even explained "if you would greet me as if you cared then I would not care.  Yet every day I come home and the first thing out is not HI HOW WAS YOUR DAY,  it's I need this at the store.  

     It has been 20 years since I left and one thing is clear to me, my anger was not justified and I  knew that I would kill my daughters mother if I did not go.   

    I worked as an adolesant counselor and felt in conttrol of my actions untill I came home.  I can rationalize  how  things were yet for my anger there is only one reason.   It was not how I envisioned my life and felt as if I was being cheated.

Father needs helps too

As I was watching the children speak with Dr. Phil today. It seemed like they were trying to tell him more than they did. I'm really concerned about the father....what does Dr. Phil know about how he treated the children. The children were so afraid of the stick...it seemed to be related to their Dad. He really lacked emotion throughout the entire show.

I have never e-mailed to this show or any show before in my life.  I felt I had to voice my utmost concern for the children.  Please Dr. Phil protect the children!!!!!!

Thank you for helping her Dr Phil

Hello...I am the mother of an 8 year old son whom has Aspbergers Syndrome and a perfect (in her mind) 4 year old princess.  I am also a self employeed business owner in a high stress and high demanding job that I do from home.  There was a time that I felt due to PMS, stress, overworked and underappreciated that I lashed out.  For about 3 months.  While watching today..I began to cry uncontrollably, even now while writing this.  For several reasons.  I hoped that I was never in the mode this mom is, I hope that she can receive the help and get back to appreciating and nurturing her children, the fear they must be in as an abuse victim myself...sexually and physically...oh my goodness I could go on.  I wanted to say thank you to Dr Phil for bumping her up in the air schedule and getting her help.  Every time I watch Dr Phil, it seems I grow to appreciate and love my family and live more and more. I have, after hearing Dr Phil say many times to others...trimmed my schedule and adjusted things financially to be able to spend more time with my family and on myself.  The first time in 44 years...and I have had a job since I was 13.  My business allowed  my husband to take last summer off due to health reasons.  He worked very part time, ran errands that I used to for the business, and spent a ton of time with the kids.  He was able to do this for 6 months.  He indicated it was the best time of his life. I am so appreciative to have this opportunity.  I cannot imagine behaving in this manner with my children...but, from my experience...I know how anger without assistance in control, can overpower reality.  Again...thank you so much Dr Phil for helping this family.  My love and prayers are with this family.

Evil People !

   

  OK,  This show made me sick  to my stomach. The thought of these children living with this torture is unbearable to imagine. How many years has this been happening behind closed doors? To think that the husband was so shocked and surprised  while watching this video is unbelievable. How could he not know, nor even see the signs.Those children need someone they can turn to for support and comfort and you would think that they would be able to go to their father but no it turns out that he is just as abusive but in his mind nowhere near the point of rage.   

   I am finding it hard to cope with the fact that Dr.Phil would allow these unprotected children to return to ground Zero, the center of mass rage.   On the up side of this at least the mother is willing to allow Dr.Phil to help her stop the Abuse TODAY.   

 In my opinion its as if the mother blames her children for her lack of a life. I think in a way that maybe she feels that being a stay at home mom means she will never be able to enjoy the lifestyle her and her husband had before children. But that does not give her any reason to hurt her own flesh and blood.  

   

    Thanks for the free time to vent.

She needs to be locked up forever, and in there I'd love to see her become someone's punching bag. Father should be joinning the mother in jail. What a horrible, vile, and disgusting couple!!!!!
