Nancy & Madelyn

It's great to see that the two of you can come together and be a family. Madelyn you spoke up when I know it had to be hard but you did it! And Nancy, to believe in your daughter tells me that you are a great mother. You both are an inspiration to everyone out there! Thank you!

God Bless........

So if it is a sin...show it

Quote From: luckynum13

Okay don't get me started........ are you god???? don't be saying god doesn't want me to do this or that cause you don't know.   There are many religious people who hurt themselves in the name of god to feel the pain Jesus went through.   Tattoos are not harming my body!  Maybe you should be more concerned with people who smoke and eat a lot of junk and do things that actually do harm their body.   I would think smoking is much more a so called "sin" as you religious people would say than ink!!!!!
I do not know of any direct qoute from god saying tattos are a sin...one that said....the body is a temple...well some people chose to decorate the temple and some don't....please give us a break with the bible qoutes please...be honest, it is your opinion, not Gods!! Yikes!!

Tattooes

I am a Mother of 2 boys and one of them would love to get tattooed just like MOM. Yes i have tattooes but I waited till I was older and really thought of what I wanted. My son who is only 17 yrs old wants a full sleeve jjust like that young woman on the show, After the show we had a talk about the tatooes and seeing what that girl will look like at 65 really hit home. So thank you Dr. Phil for helping me explain all this to him. I am not against getting tattooes like I said before I have 2 one large one on my calf, but I waited till I was 40 yrs and really thought of it first plus mine is in a place that can be easily covered by pants. I feel that body art is up to the person itself and I do realize that ppl will judge you, that will never change. But u have to be tasteful with ur art and make sure u are doing what u really want and well it is there forever so alot of thought has to go into. As for my son I am still hoping that he really thinks of his choices and waits till atleast 25 before tattooing his body. But that is a Mothers dream  I know.  U are beautiful inside and out and ppl should start looking at the person like that instead of what is on their skin.

Not a THING wrong with a tattoo !!!

I have a few , try 11 , but just 1 that a Fireman told me to get that could just save my life one day , cause people are doing away with Medical ID braclets now , So I had mine tattooed on , just like the Fireman told me to do. It's on my wrist right where it can be seen, I'm Epileptic and if I'm to have a seizure and no one knows what's wrong with me , Well there it is , tattooed on my wrist and they can read it too ! The Fireman told me also that alot of tattoos are being but on the chest or ankle , cause the braclets and a necklets will break eacy then they don't know what is wrong with the person , and that doesn't help them much. I think that is a very good idea , My DR liked it a lot too. My other tattoos I'm pround of , I have not problem with them , I just let other people know , if you don't like it don't look at or just get away from me , I didn't get it for you or anbody else but ME !!!  They are on me to stay now , and there is nothing wrong with that , I have a niece that is 18 yrs old she got one , and another , she's 12 yrs old and she can't wait to get her first. I'll be glad to go with her too. JHicks624@aol.com

05/29 Parenting Dilemmas

Quote From: chrijo

I plan on thinking my way!   You have the right to think your way.  But as for NASTY, yeah, right!!!  As the ex would say,   WHATEVER!!!!!!

And if GOD gave me this body, than i should be able to do what i want with it. If i think this is what he ( GOD ) wants me to do, than i will!!!!

If you don't like them, don't look at them

The Bible also says that there is NO sin greater than another. Be it murder or stealing. If you feel that getting a tattoo is a sin and you have never sinned; cast the first stone.

Concerned About Rachel

I rarely coment...but I am truly concerned about Rachel. Rachel...you have such a beautiful smile..your skin is fantastic..you have beautiful thick hair...you are young and the world is your oyster. The one thing you don't appear to have is hope. Honey, you displayed such a painful sadness in your eyes and I am very concerned for you.  I know how difficult it is to function and fit in in todays world when you are overweight. Girl, you are too young to give up. My goodness...in a year you could be so much smaller. And please know your value as a person does not change regardless of what you weigh.  My heart aches for you...I remember well how we are picked on when we are different...how it affects our whole life. You appear to me as an intelligent girl who feels like "why bother" but please...please know that God loves you no matter what you weigh...how you look...the color of your skin or what kind of job you have. Please take Dr. Phils help...you deserve to live your life to the fullest. God bless you and know that their are those of us who do care.

Parent position

Ok, let's all be real for just a minute. Everyone WITH a tatoo is being  somewhat defensive.  Understandable.  However, remember what the topic was.  This mom is concerned about her daughter's future and that certainly is justifiable on her part.  It is one thing to get A tatoo or 2 tatoos but to be a walking billboard is a bit over the edge.  It may not be "fair" for others to judge but....reality is that this judgment will take place and it is a natural instinct to protect one's children, at least it should be!  Down  the road, this young lady, cosmatologist or not, will be judged by her appearance.  Is that fair?  It really doesn't matter if it is fair, it only matters that it is reality.  Teaching our children to live in the REAL world is so much more important than ignoring behavior which may, in the future, cause them regret or uncomfortable situations.  Why reinvent the wheel?  Will she be smarter in 10 years than she is today?  Let's hope so and hope that she will take the advice of others who have "been there, done that".  She needs to remember that the people who can help her the most in life are those who are of another generation and may have a different view.  I hope this young lady will listen to her mom and Dr. Phil and realize that one does not know what the future brings.  Her tatoo enhanced boyfriend may not be around forever...........

Wow

I find it unappealing for tatooing. I honestly think everyone has there own opinion.  I personally think that tatooing has been over rated.  I have no tatoo's and never will.  My personal belief is that we were created in the image of God and our bodies is his temple.  Would we graffiti God's church walls?  I just feel that it isn't ok for me or my girls but if you chose to do so I won't stand in your way.  I just think beauty comes from within self and not by the outerly appearance.  I sometimes wonder if people who get tatoo's don't feel accepted as who they are without the pictures on their bodies.  Again this is only my opinion.  I wouldn't treat anyone different who has tatoo's because their beliefs are different from mine.

Open your mind

I am a successful mother of two boys and I have 7 tattoos.  I work in an office every day and my tattoos in no way have had a negative influuence on my life.  I think it is wrong to judge another and push your beliefs onto them. We should all be open minded. My husband has 378 tattoos and is still a good person. It shouldn't matter what a person looks like on the outside or chooses to do to their body.  What should matter to everyone is what that person does in their life.

I have been there

Quote From: rosebud68

I too was sexual abused by my father from the age of four until i was in my twentys. I told my mother  several times and she did nothing to stop it. My mother actually blamed me for the abuse. I thought the show should have showed the other side of children telling their parent about the abuse. The ones were the parent do not support the child. I no longer have contact with my family and I moved across the country to get away from them.  The pain doesn't go away.

Hi everyone I just had to get on here and say I am not the only one Thank you Dr. Phil for letting me know that I am not the only person that has been destoryed by this kind of action. I was married to a man for 10 years and when I had a stroke and couldn't perform my wifely duties he started slipping around with my daughter getting her drunk and using her she became a acholic and now suffers from liver diease and he kicked her out after he married her because she got sick. It is hard to deal with this and it is hard to be with her but we try he is now out of the picture but sometimes I feel so much love for this man that itis ruining my present marriage and i don't know how to fix it.

he was a wonderful man for 8 of those years ,I feel that I let him down........
