Obtaining Non-Identifying Information: Adopted adults, direct descendants of a deceased adopted adult, adoptive parents, birth parents, and birth siblings may obtain non-identifying information.

Obtaining Identifying Information: Adopted adults can receive information through the State registry on the birth parents and birth siblings. Birth parents and birth siblings can receive the adopted adult's information, if the adopted adult provided written consent through the agency that completed the adoption and the court that finalized the adoption.

Using a Confidential Intermediary: Confidential intermediaries are provided through the court for adopted adults, birth parents, birth grandparents, birth siblings, adoptive parents of a minor adoptee, and descendants of a deceased adopted adult.

Using the Adoption Registry: If parental rights were terminated prior to May 28, 1945, or after September 12, 1980, and there is no parental statement of denial found in the registry, the adopted adult can receive information on the birth parents and Birth Siblings. If parental rights were terminated after May 28, 1945, but before September 12, 1980, the information will be released if the birth parents or birth siblings have filed consent through the registry.

Contact:
Michigan Family Independence Agency
Adoption Services Division
PO Box 30037
Lansing, MI 48909
(517) 373-3513

Obtaining an Original Birth Certificate: If parental rights were terminated prior to May 28, 1945, or after September 12, 1980, an adopted adult may receive a copy of the original birth certificate if there is no denial statement on file. If parental rights were terminated between May 28, 1945 and September 12, 1980, an adopted adult must petition the court in which the adoption was finalized.

Contact: An adopted adult's adoption record is usually held in the Family Division of Circuit Court (formerly the probate court) closest to the adoptive parents. The court should be able to provide the name of the agency that handled the adoption. Adopted adults may contact the Department of Community Health, Customer Services Section, 3423 North Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., PO Box 30195, Lansing, MI, 48909 to request the name of the court that finalized the adoption.

I know my father's name and I believe I have found my biological parents.  I was adopted through a private adoption in 1950 in Illinois.  I would just like to see what they look like, not interfere with their lives.  What can I do to confirm my finding?

Searching for Birth Parents

Trying to find your biological parents has nothing to do with you adopted one.  It is about your real history, your background, your health.

It always make sad that I have a black hole as a background and I do not know who I can relate to.

My parents are good people but I would love to know why I love reading so much, love history...

So, I understand where most of you are coming from.

Searching for Birth Parents

Quote From: 062979

Hi to everyone.

I am a 26 year old woman.  I was born in Calgary, AB Canada.  June 29 1979 in the General Hospital.  My name at birth was Sandra Campbell.  I just recently found out that both my siter and I were adopted at birth.  I was adopted a month after I was born!!! WOW what a shocker that was, I must say. Also its said that my sister and I came from different families..yet another shocker to add to the story!!!  Im still having a bit of a hard time coping with the whole thing.  My parents never ever mentioned a thing about us being adopted ever.  It was some other family members of ours that told us about a year ago.  I still have not talked with my parents about this yet.  I really dont know how to go about all of this.  I dont ever want to hurt them, they have did a great job of rasing us and caring for us. I have recieved a bit of information on my adoption and on my birth parents.  I would love to find them and maybe eventually meet in the future.

Looking for my birth siblings and parents

I was born in Bad Axe Michigan according to the birth certificate I have. I did go to our local court building and found out that I have 2 older siblings and that it was a court ordered adoption. I would really like to find them all and get my medical history for my kids. My parents that adopted me were excellent parents and they said that they were told by a local doctor and my godfather that babies born in this area were adotpted out here. The doctor is deceased now and my godfather won't tell me anything, he helped with mine but he just can't seem to remember anything about it. We don't know if it was like a black market , under ground thing or what and I don't know if the older siblings were adotped out to or if they even knew about me. I released my information out in Lansing so if they are looking they will make a connection there but nothing yet. I have been trying for 10  years now and I don't think I will ever find anyone but at least I tried. My mom now does not know anything but she always said she wished she did.

Searching for Birth Parents

Quote From: jlp1297

After having a dream that my mother gave birth to a child and put it up for adoption, I was very surprised to find out about 8 months later (June 2005) that it was true!!  My mother gave birth to a son in 1969 (my oldest known sibling was born in 1971) and put him up for adoption.  She believes that my father is also the father of this child.  She has desperately wanted to seach for her son but never progressed to far out of fear that we would find out.  Know that we know, my sister and I would like to help her in her search.  Where do we begin?

Where was your brother born and when is his birthday??

Looking for Birth Parents and Any Siblings

I was born Feb,6th-1956 . I was adopted when I was a baby. My parents who adopted me were great. My father passed away when I was 9. We moved up to Pembine Wisconsin from Milwaukee where we lived before our move. My Mom always told me when I was older that I knew my birth parents and that she would tell me who they were before she passed away. She did not get to tell me . She passed away in 1997. I finally have decided to try and find my birth parents and get my family history etc and to see if I have any brothers or sisters.

Looking for Birth Parents and any Siblings

To add to my earlier post.I was born in Milwaukee Wisconsin on Feb,6th-1956. I keep looking at different sites but so far no luck . I started looking a couple years ago and got frustrated so gave up. Now I am trying to look again for my birth parents and any siblings. I found a site a few years ago where you could post etc and it was adoptees and a birth parent and sibling site based in  Wisconsin for Milwaukee . I can not find the site anymore. Anyone with info. I would appreciate it . I guess I am feeling real lost since the parents who raised me have both passed away. I have always wanted to find my birth parents and siblings , specially since my mother said I knew them and was around them growing up. But looks like a brick wall.

My husband was adopted at birth by two very loving parents. His mother passed away four years ago and his dad is in a nursing home which we take care of him on a daily basis.

My husband never wanted to know his birth parents but now he has had some medical issues and we feel we need to find his birth parents for medical reasons not only for him but for our children also. We know he was adopted in Lubbock  Texas at birth. The hospital has since closed.  We went to the court house and the judge would not open the adoption so we do not know where to even begin. I am in need of some help if anyone can help me I and my husband would deeply appreciate it

Thanks you

Cheryl
