A staple of any weight loss plan is moderate daily exercise. Pilates, yoga, and aerobics are hugely popular, along with good old-fashioned walking! What exercises do you find most effective? Share your routine with us!

Quote From: mettie1

Hi I am about to turn twenty in the next few weeksi have gained quite of bit of weight with the past few months or from this time last year i know that i do not eat right how many college students do eat right while in school.  Ok last time i check i am little above 200 lbs. I know i can be able tolose weight my biggest problem lack of exercise my college has a gym. but i do not know what to do and how long to do exercises and i stop using the gym becuase i do not have anyone to share the expeirience. does anyone know if there is a way where  i can get my self the pride to use the gym.

Hey college student...

I am almost 40 years old and also a full-time college student. I am going thru the Nursing Program and my obstacle is that I have sooooo much to study, that I don't have a lot of time to exercise, but when I do, I exercise at the gym on campus...no contracts, no payments, all I need is my student ID. I can only tell you what motivates me and I really hope it encourages you...IT"S FREE to the students to start with, the profesors are right there on site and I'm sure they can give you a few hints on exercise, and what really gets me up and going is MUSIC !!! If you love music, get a CD player with your favorite music and go for it. If you do not have a partner, don't wait for one, don't wait for no one...Common you're half my age...Let's go !!! And good luck.

End of my 6th week

Well, I didn't lose any last week. But I didn't gain any back either, so it's all good. I didn't get much exercise or I would have lost something. I was out of town the end of the week, stayed with some friends. It was snowing, windy and cold, so I decided not to walk, and decided to be a vegetable. So I was very strict with my eating to compensate. However, at my age, I have to do EVERYTHING right to lose. I'm looking forward to getting back to it this week. I really missed my work out room!

How do you get motivated to exercise?

I know what is healthy to eat and what is not. I can handle that part of loosing weight. I just can't get motivated to start and keep up with exercising.  I just can't seem to get started. Not sure what I am afraid of? I know I can't do it without exercising. I bought a treadmill 2 months ago...need I say more?

Any helpful hints would be much appreciated!!!

    Thanks

I exercised tonight, did pilates for 45 minutes. Why? because it gives me endorphins and "endorphins make people happy and happy people just don't kill their husbands!"  I don't like to exercise. I like to have fun and move around, but being out of breath while playing with friends gets embarassing, so I decided to lose weight. hopefully 30-40 pounds and get into shape. Diets and pills...sure they can help....but what really makes the differece, is the changes we're making! and exercise happens to be one of them.

I learned how to self-hypnotize about 3 years ago, and it makes a world of difference. I use time on the treadmill to meditate. I used to listen to music, but I find that workouts are more satisfactory when I'm "present". I really get involved in how good it feels to move.

The trick is to just do it, even though you don't want to  or will not want to.  It doesn't matter.  You just do it.  Simple.  Get yourself into a routine, even if you run for 5 minutes (I have asthma and that's about as long as I can run!!)  The intensity will give you a great workout, but then walk for a favorite TV show at a high pace.  Soon enough, you'll realize that you're doing it out of habit, not because you want to, but because you do.  Then, if you stop for a day, you'll have that nagging feeling, something's missing?  What is it?

I'm pregnant right now, and I am in dire need of getting back on my treadmill, but I have to wait until I give birth, stupid complications!!!  Made me gain 60 lbs!!!  I went from perfect me,  I was so happy that I lost the weight I needed to, 125lbs to 185lbs!!!  Yeah, I'm mad about that, but I dearly miss my treamill, in the corner, calling my name, everyday.  Ha Ha.

Do like Nike and Just Do It.

I will.

Doing what Works

Quote From: elffie

Tell me about it, I have had two kids, both were ceserian and I found it very hard to loose the fat around my tummy.  I did yoga and Tai Chi, but now I am into pilates.  It is a whole body workout and it seems to be paying off.  I try to do it atleast three times a week, usually when the kids go to bed.  I know I can hide that part of my body, but I would rather work on it, it makes me feel better after I've done the excercize.  The abs are first on my list, but I do work on other areas, such as legs and thighs.  I just had my daughter 4 months ago and didn't hesitate to work out when I was able to start.  I waited too long after I had my son and got down to the size I was before I had him just around the time I got pregnant again.  I didn't want to wait that long this time.  What I am trying to say is that Pilates is a good workout and it usually only takes up 20 minutes of my time and people should give it a try.  I have already lost 4 inches in my tummy since I started it!  Good luck to all and keep on trying.

People need to realize that if they find what works for them, keep up with it.  The only problem is that people think they can spot reduce, and you just can't.

What loses fat is cardio and weight training, what keeps it off is proper diet and nutrition, and by diet I mean nutrition, not the latest fad out there.

I do agree, I am 32 weeks pregnant, and now huge!  I am not waiting a day before I get back on my treadmill and pick up my weights, after all, I'll have 4 months until bikini season starts!!  AAAAAHHHH!!!  Time to jump up and do it eh?

Good luck to ya!  I'm glad it's working for you!
