A staple of any weight loss plan is moderate daily exercise. Pilates, yoga, and aerobics are hugely popular, along with good old-fashioned walking! What exercises do you find most effective? Share your routine with us!

Back to regular workouts.

I've been waffling on my decision for a goal this year. Finding out about Steve Vaught, the "fat man walking" gave me the inspiration I needed.
I've been working out steadily all week, and lost 1 1/2lbs last week. The nice thing is that I'm feeling so much better. I've put on some muscle and lost some inches, so my pants are feeling better.
My initial goal is to participate in the Avon cancer walk in June. A total of 39 miles over two days. Not sure I'll make it the whole way, but in order to not emabarrass myself, I need to be in better shape than I am now. And that's the REAL goal. I'm doing 4 to 4 1/2 miles a day (walking mostly) with a little weight training and stretches thrown in. All of which will get longer and more strenuous as time goes on.
Oh, and of course I still have about 32lbs to lose too. Anybody else in the Denver area that will be participating? The more the merrier!

Good job!!

Quote From: mikao2603

A year ago, I did not exercise at all. Until it came to a point that I had heart palpatations while resting. I went to my physician. She told me to do some sports to strengthen my heart and loose weight.

This was a pivital moment for me. Now, a year later I still have to loose a lot of weight but I'm feeling a lot better than before. I do fitness training 3 times or more a week. At least 50 minutes of cardio training every session did wonders for my heart. I would not do without it anymore!

Jo

I was just reading your message and I wanted to say Good Job!!  I'm exercising and I have been for two weeks now and I have lost 5lbs. But I have many more lbs to lose!! I want to be healthier and slim.

Burning Buns

I've found it hard to find an exercise that works my butt because I'm very clumsy and most butt exercises like squats and lunges require balance.  So I layed with my back on my couch and my feet on the floor.  I bring my butt level with my upper half and then lower it again.  It feels great.  It took less than 30 seconds for me to start feeling the burn.

starting out

I have about 30 pounds to lose.  My focus is on exercise rather than what i'm eating.  I have started walking 30mins in the morning, 30 mins bikeriding in the afternoon, and another 30min walk before dinner.  I find it easier to break it up.  I am also drinking more water.  I want to learn and play tennis but feel I need to be so much fitter.

Exercise

Quote From: yme2005

I am the same size now that you were....I am so happy for you!  I started dropping weight very slowly starting December 14th because I am so tired of the way I feel and look.  I eat healty now and try to stay under 1800 calories a day.  however, I have not incorporated excercise.  I know you all have heard this excuse before, but I don't seem to ever find the time.  My commute to work is 52 miles one way.  I get up at 5AM every morning, get ready, take my daughter to school, drive to work, work all day (which is a sitting job), drive home, get home around 7:15, then plop on the couch.

I really want to be a size 14, that would be great!  Right now, all I wear are sweat suit outfits.  Got one in every color...lol.

Anyway, just wanted to say congrats, I hope I can post something similar soon!

Thanks! Just take it one step at a time.  If you keep at it, it will come.  You have it tough with that awful commute.  I don't work too far away.  I work in my classroom after school for a bit and then I go to Curves and then pick up my son.  If I couldn't sneak in Curves before picking him up I probably wouldn't exercise much either. I found a DVD I like too that I will do when I can't get to Curves. It is Preventions 321 Workout. It is 3 minutes aerobics, 2 minutes strength training and 1 minute core. Then you do that circuit 6 times with strength training on a different area. In fact I think I am going to go do it now. Good luck!

any advice?

Hi,

I'm new to these boards. I need to lose around 85lbs. and am in a dilemma .Should I join a health club,- like Curves- 3 days a week, along with a diet change, or can I get results with walking and weights at home? I would like to tone my butt , legs and arms, and lose most of  my belly fat. I hate to pay to exercise, that is part of what is holding me back, plus I own a treadmill, and that's paid for! Might as well use it, huh?  I had a knee replacement and I'm only 47, so I need to do something. anyway, any input  you may have I'll read.   thanks!  maryl

Hello and welcome.  Join the rest of us reaching toward a healthier and happier tomorrow.  Should you join?  Not necessarily.  I had a treadmill and used it all the time til it broke beyond repair.  currently I live in a tiny trailer with no room for exercise equipment. so, I did join Curves.  If you find that you need outside motivation, then joining a gym might not be a bad idea.  The key - find something you like and can stick with.
