Welcome

Quote From: simabina

hi! i'm a 47 year-old woman in NYC. I was heavy all my life until about 7 years ago when i lost about 75 lbs, first because i was having a hard time during my divorce and then because i became obssessed with losing weight and exercising. somewhere along the way i lost my motivation and cannot get back on the track. i am 5'2" and 140 lbs. i would love to lose 15 lbs. to most people that's nothing. to me, it's a challenge that i've been struggling with for the last 4 years. i have tried everything, including a nutritionist. but i seem to sabotage myself all the time. therefore, i yo-yo between 3-4 lbs ALL THE TIME. it's so frustrating! i'm hoping that joining this message board would help me get motivated by people who are in the same position as me. i

We all at times sabotage ourselves in that we are fulfilling one need over another; whether it is the need to find solace and comfort from stress, fear, anger or boredom; perhaps our inner voice is tearing at self esteem, maybe we are proving something right. There are so many reasons and it only takes a few minutes to wind up gaining weight on any particular day as opposed to losing or maintaining because our focus is positive. The strategy lies in our awareness and support from others and accepting responsibility.

I too have struggled with up to 26 pounds throughout my life, sometimes maintaining at a reasonable weight for a year. At present I am 14 pounds away from my goal weight, similiar to you. Perhaps in posting here we can encourage one another, and in turn ourselves and everyone else who posts here. Can I count you in?

you absolutely can count me in. let's encourage each other to lose these last 14-15 lbs. slowly but surely. on one of my good days, when i think about it rationally, i say to myself that compared to those who have lost 100+ lbs, what i have to lose is nothing. and then i wonder why i cannot do it. as you said, it has to do with a lot of things, most importantly, self-esteem. do you want to promise each other that by next week, sunday, we'll lose 2 lbs.? it shouldn't be that difficult if we know that someone, here in NY, is doing the same and caring about what's going to happen to us. whoever wants to join in is very welcome. how about it?

Sorry to not have checked back sooner. It is wonderful to get an answer from you. Yes, you are on for dropping 2 pounds by next Sunday. I weighed myself yesterday morning. I also want to challenge both of us to also work on awareness, especially as I'm sitting here suddenly thinking about eating something when I'm not really hungry. One of my triggers came to visit today :). Funny how people in our own family pose some of the hardest lessons we have to learn about human behavior, geez.Taking deep breaths also helps with our weight loss challenge.  I took the day off exercise today; however tomorrow I will get in a good workout. Who else is working out tomorrow?  It is a great stress reliever.

Anybody Else?

Anyone else up for a challenge this weeK? Two pounds can make a difference in the comfort of at least one thing in your closet. For me it is a pair of jeans that I need to suck my belly in to button and only dry for 10 minutes and hang them up damp so they won't feel too tight.

hello bueststar, everyone has "triggers" in their family. i do too. that's why i'm such an emotional eater. sad, mad, glad... i eat :) i'm trying to change this behavior with the help of Dr. Phil's book which i bought a couple of days ago. it's helping already. i hope it stays that way! i've tried everything to fight my emotional eating. behavioral psychologist, nutritionist, not talking to "trigger people," nothing has ever worked for long. but i'm a perpetually hopeful person. it's fantastic that we're on for losing 2 lbs a week. now we have something to work towards. i usually do 50-60 minutes of elliptical machine early in the morning and then 1 1/4 hour of yoga at the end of the day. that's a lot of workout. so you can imagine how much i should be eating in between (usually when i'm absolutely not hungry), as not to lose weight. of course, i don't gain any either. now, that we have a pact to lose 2 lbs until next week, i have a goal. little steps and we'll get there. i hope others on this message board would join us. have a great monday.

Take a Moment

Take a  moment to pause and check in with yourself. Am I on track with my food and exercise strategy? Yes, but I could easily get sloppy if I don't keep up my awareness amongst the holiday fare. Now with the agreement I made with Simabina, I remind myself that I will have to remain accountable on Sunday to weigh in. I certainly exercised hard this morning. I usually cross train and do something at least 5X a week.

I'm getting called away by the family. It's good checking in with ya'

Sim, I made the pact to lose 2 pounds this week and I'll agree that I will keep working on losing thereafter;  however it is unrealistic for me to make a 2 pound a week pact. The rate of losing is what it is, and as long as the number keeps heading down and my clothes get looser, I know I'm doing OK. I also want to resist hopping on the scale too often. Even those weeks that we lose half a pound we may also lose an inch, build better habits and become healthier. As it has been a long time since I've read Dr Phil's book, it would also be a good idea for me to get back into it. If you think that you can lose 2 pounds a week I will support you in that goal.

Keep going for it Simabina and I'll check in again soon.

I am so happy that you are here too and love your readiness and jumping right in with us. Now with 3 as the number of expansion, the circle of support gets rolling. (Key #7) Simabina and I are weighing in on Sunday morning. Do you want to make that your day as well or are you weighing in on Thursday or another day? However you choose, you have our support.

Today was a little tough for me - lots of work stress plus I took a day off exercise to rest my right foot and thigh, both a little strained. Tomorrow I will exercise.

Let's keep it rolling.
