Carbon Footprint

As a child arrives bare and barefoot
The earth awaits the impact of one's journey
While a sandpiper scurries across the beach
A child scampers to catch in bigger steps
What's the impact of each carbon footprint

Trees once towering over to shade formed into paper sacks
Flowers picked to put into a vase without a trace
Where did that amber field go on its way to the city
The ocean rushed ashore in hurricane force to see
How like a Tsunami man could cut down forests too

People run like super colliders into nature to possess
Then vacation in some remote area of earth or mind
Trying to commune with innocence or earth's lost virginity
Stomping through life sacking bags of leaves like trash
Nature's perfection lost in "perfection" of landscaped lawns

Where was I? I'm not sure. Where are you? Where are we?
I just arrived bare and barefoot too...
Now what? Yes, Now what! My sentences as erratic as life.
My resources dwindling like earth's resources...
Filling weekly bags of trash that weigh more...

More than what? You know the answer. We know the answers.
We are being crushed beneath our own carbon footprints
Of each child arriving bare and barefoot like we did
Leaving the earth bare and barren filling weekly trash bags
Weighing more than each arriving bare and barefoot child

Did you imagine a scent of roses in a forgotten flower bed
Bottled on a dresser to spray on eau de' pseudo roses
Go pluck some flowers from a store floral department
Following fossil fuel paths along the road
Making your own along the way beneath a canopy of smog

Maybe you will pass a recycle momma in Dallas waving to you
And everyone to hop on up and shape your carbon footprint up
Like some sort of hip hop song written in the twilight zone
As prophetic as John the Baptist's First New Year's Resolution
To repent and receive salvation as a bare and barefoot child

You pause and think of riding a bicycle down dirt paths
Of vows to take the road less travelled and not be a carbon copy
Yet your once bare feet have tracked in carbon as thick as soot
Pull off your shoes and socks and run across the grass
No, wait, you can't because it was bagged and poured into landfills

Nature is dwindling from earth into remnants preserved in poetry
Where birds still chirp in trees and fresh ocean scents spray ashore
Blue skies burst with warm sunshine to bring a spring rainbow
After a gentle snowflake falls to earth from a long lost memory
While another child arrives bare and barefoot

To Whom It May Concern new and not so new...

CARBON FOOTPRINT written January 1, 2009, by me, SEA. We share what helps us individually and collectively to keep our heads above depression. Sometimes writing keeps me from spinning my wheels in the ruts of depression. Seems last night my thoughts took a detour down camp despair. Some of the greatest poets came to us from the depths of despair like: Emily Dickinson

http://allpoetry.com/contest/2431677

CARBON FOOTPRINT was written for a contest at link above being run by the man, Kevin, who began AllPoetry and Storywrite websites who I think said he types over 120 wpm. He reads fast like Dr. Phil has said he does, too. Many don't realize that more than once a man has held world's fastest typing speed. Anyway, a Berkley graduate I think who now is married and lives in NW USA and many fellow poets believe he's a genius. IDK That's just what we believe. Contest above you can win $50 and winning poem is published in a book of poetry, too, I think. Poetry.com can be fun and in the past has been on pop up advertising here. I first joined poetry.com then AllPoetry.

They solicit money from you to keep website going yet you don't have to buy. I don't. Although, one day I plan to get a life membership at AllPoetry and have bought memberships for two others there, for past five years I've been a free member. One person was a member here who'd lost friends and had survivor's guilt and when her paying membership expired and pictures of her friends vanished she was thrust into grief again... so I bought her a membership so her friends would reappear. A perk of paying membership IS you can do graphics and post pics of family etc.

Kevin said he mostly just wants to encourage persons to write. I choose 18 and under subject matter on my author profile which makes words over 18(ish) default to the word bunny which I love that the bunnies are watching over me. So, anyway, can be a positive thing to do. Wish me luck. I've won one contest for a free gold membership yet to win a contest that originator of AllPoetry is running would be a BIG honor. One commenter on CARBON FOOTPRINT said, "Exceptional." I hope so. My first "Exceptional!!!" comment anyway. Thank you.

Looks like an angel stopped by. We missed the recycle man this a.m. because he came at 7:30 a.m. so I saw him up the street and gave him a piece of paper with your address. Not sure if he'll stop back by or not. Hasn't yet and our four foot tall receptacle is full. Lynn had a tizzy about it today over the recycle drama. LOLz I guess it is true the unexpected is the most stressful. Have a good one everyone. Let's plan on it.

God sends angels to bless you every day
So rejoice just like a child at play

DALLAS RECYCLE BLUE BIN PICKER UPPERS ROCK!!! YAY, JUST STOPPED BACK BY TO RECYCLE OURS.

Quote From: yesyoucan

I was saving a bunch of things for the Dr. Phil Show if they ever stopped by and Dr. Phil began "Getting Real Going Green" state-of-the art thrifts stores with a coffee shop inside "and" attached automotive for car donations. This coffee shop could have a plasma TV where every day tuned in to Dr. Phil Show and Jay's THE DOCTORS.

When I donated a money order to the Dr. Phil Foundation I noticed the information for donating said not to mail in anything besides cash donations. So right there that shows that Dr. Phil "Getting Real Going Green" thrift stores to benefit the Dr. Phil Foundation are already wanted by potential donors such as myself.

Also, there could be on-site recycle bins for plastic and paper (and "maybe" scrap metal) and styrofoam peanuts. Dr. Phil's state-of-the-art thrift store could do Ebay and online sales and mail out. YOU KNOW people would want to buy from there via mail. ALL boxes could be recycled boxes and packing.

Would be a wonderful place to teach youth and/or rehabilitate persons in computer use and all facets of a successful business based on giving and giving back to the earth being good stewards of the earth. The Dr. Phil Show teaches us to be good stewards of each other. A complete circle would be being good stewards of he earth, too.

The "Getting Real Going Green" Dr. Phil Foundation thrift store book department of thrift store could be by coffee shop. THEN PEOPLE COULD DONATE WHILE HAVING A NON-ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGE. Ironically, the school colors of where Dr. Phil graduated from college ARE green and white. I cannot think of any better legacy to leave NTU and U.S. and the world than a more environmentally conscious message.

Cups could have on them:
Improve the Earth and Children's Fate:
Conserve, Recycle and Donate
OR
Life is a team effort:
JOIN THE BIG GREEN TEAM!!!
You, Me, WE recycling...
