Do the recent school shootings make you fear for your child’s safety? Has your child’s school implemented safety measures? Share your concerns, fears or advice.

America

Quote From: katanja

Im wondering how people in america think.

Scenarios:
1. A boy/girl in my sons/daughters class got in to a fight, so i wont let my children play with him/her. you think "he/she is probably the kind that will grow up to be a school shooter"

Well probably if you parents purposly alienate him and make him unable to learn how to socialize. (sorry about the spelling).  And i go so far as to say that you parents of the children who isnt allowed to play with that kid is highly responible for that kids future! For bad or for worse!!! And from what ive seen on TV (bad source i know) this is an accuring scenario taking place everyday throughout the US. I recomend the movie "Bang bang your dead" for every parent that ever baned their child from playing with another child because he/she is a trouble maker!

2. There was a robbery next door and you decide to get a gun to feel safe

Only in America...

Only in America are people so scared of everyday life that they cant think logicly.
Only in America is a gun security while every SANE country bans guns or at least get some kind of reasonable restriction.

Quote from the movie *Shoot em up*: "Guns dont kill, but they sure do help"

I want to continue but its getting late. would love some response, criticism or whatever! Give me your view of these matters.

What country do you live in?

I don't think you understand.

Quote From: afraid

maybe we need to put up a stockaid fence with armed guards all around the schools with razor wire at the top just like our prisons have and have 1 way in and 1 way out, with a security cheack at the gate along with metal detectors at the schools entrance, with armed officers there as well, hell fire when you cant send your children to school with out the fears of a raging murdier getting in wow it relly looks like maybe home school over the internet may be what this world is coming to, no one sure as hell isnt goin to walk in my home and shoot my child i will drop there ass long before they get through my door,
The people who do school shootings don't just decide they are going to. Something is wrong. They are picked on by the kids you may be trying to keep safe. I understand wanting to keep people safe, but if the kids weren't picked on in the first place, it could be avoided. Stop bullying in schools. Stop the fighting and get people anger management. Turning school into prison won't work because mostly, people are not going to want to pay for it, even if it's for the children. We need to stop the violence before it escalates into something as large as a shooting.

There is no real profile for a school shooter.

Quote From: ebec11

I know it's a real threat out there, but the chance is so slim that it shouldn't be nearly as focused on. In this world, there are always people who don't follow the rules and do horrible things, but what people should realize is that for every bad person out there, there are at least ten others who do that don't get nearly as much attention.

I'd just like to add that most school shootings are by children who were picked on and bullied. Nothing would happen if people would just be nice.

Bullied students are not the only ones who go berzerk.  Once a child is introduced into the public school system they are influenced by other students who may or may not have been raised with the same caring and supportive ways that you or I have.  Some  "parentless" students join gangs and intimidate other students into committing crimes.  I live in Texas and the violence in our schools has become a very serious issue.  Many of the students, in the school that my grandchild attends, end up in alternative school to deal with issues of violence.  Her school does have a one way in, one way out entrance with a guard at the entrance.  It has come to that and I'm willing to pay for it to keep my child safe.  We live in a "parentless" time.  There are more children today that receive no guidance or direction than in days past.  It's unfortunate, but true.  I, and my granddaughter, do what we can to not contribute to aggressive behavior and make certain that school staff is aware of students who are acting out in a violent manner so that they can receive the guidance they need.

How would you propose to stop the violence?  The problems begin in the home.

homosexuality vs divorce

Quote From: purplepenny

What does the bible have to do with any of it?

Aren't there scriptures about divorce too? Would you take your kid out of school if they were read a story where two people got divorced?
That is an unresonable comparison.  Homosexuality is about perversion;  divorce is about commitment.

man marrying man

Quote From: purplepenny

But it IS ok for a man to marry a man.

In real life in this day and age kids ARE going to see gay couples. They are going to see them raising kids, kissing, holding hands and generally enjoying life outside of a closet. I highly suggest you just get used to it.

You're right about ONE thing.  Real life in this day and age;  if you consider life on earth the only life there is.  I'm not trying to change you or make you become a "Bible thumper".   But if you're a Christian who believes in judgement day or life after this life, and I doubt that you are, homosexuality is obscene and will never be acceptable.  I know that you will continue your lifestyle and I wish you the best because I've learned to be forgiving.  Good luck to you and your mate.  Don't be judgemental about those of us you truly believe in our Christ;  we don't judge you.  We leave the judging up to our God.
