12/11 Dr. Phil and Robin’s Christmas Show!

Quote From: willowbean

By the time I got myself registered to post here, markvalv6 had very eloquently voiced my own feelings.  Deserving audience members - OK...but the loot give away was excessive.  I found myself getting increasingly upset as each bigger and better give away was revealed.

What broke the camel's back for me was a call from my sister-in-law who wanted to know what I HADN'T bought on the suggestion list she provided for my young niece and nephew so that she could go out and get the rest of it.  More "over the top"

No wonder people don't value what they have anymore - it's all so easy.

I really get sick to death of the whining about shows like this. You don't hear people whine about game shows, or when someone wins the lottery or something.

This particular audience just happen to "win"..good for them! I'm very happy for them!!! And I highly doubt all those people are going to keep all this loot for themselves, they will probably spread it around. And that's nice too.

It's all nice. I don't understand why someone would be upset by someone else's good fortune. Good for them I say! I would hope that one day if I won a big prize that people wouldn't poo-poo it for me.

Basically this is Dr Phil buying gifts for some of his audience. He cares about his audience. People give gifts to those they care for. I don't see how this is a lot different.

If Dr Phil and his family did NO charity work I could understand maybe being a little upset, but they do this and they do plenty of charity. He also help all the guests on his show along with providing people with free advice and entertainment on his show...along with providing this nice website full of info and a place to talk and make friends and get advice from other people.

Sorry for the rant, but posts like these just strike me as bitter and jealous. Be happy for those who get wonderful things like this...It actually just now struck me that after watching this show I was happy, it was fun, it gave me a few gift ideas and I thought it was a sweet thing for Dr Phil to do. You walked away angry and bitter. It's all how you look at it really. I just CHOSE to be happy. You chose to be upset.

The wonderful medicine of giving!

Great work Dr. Phil Robin and Family. Today your show reminded me of my children sharing a story how we went on Christmas Day to a place to serve a meal and how great it felt to give of themselves and surprisingly a truck dropped off a load of toys and they were asked to be Santa's helpers to pass out toys to the children.  My daughter remembered showing a little girl her age how to play with a Barbie ( she had never had a doll before). My son remembers feeling like going again next year to help.  I now raise my nephew and this is our first year as a family and my son has suggested to go with us to serve dinner again this year. We are not a well off family but we care for one another with all the wealth money could buy and that is a great gift. I hope to instill moments in these children and know they will take something from it.

Happy Holiday's Dr. Phil, Robin and Family

Christmas Give a Way

I thought it was really nice of Dr Phil and family to give those gifts to the studio people; however I started to think some of the people just  couldn't wait for the next freebie.  It's like kids the more you give them the less they appreicate it.   But it was a good show. A better show would have been to give the studio people one or two gifts and then donate some gifts to their local Children and Youth under the studio person's name to go to someone in need.

To those who think people should get over being depressed and blue at Christmas time.  It is really hard on a parent when you cannot give your children anything at Christmas.  If you've never been in that situtation you don't know how hard it is on a parent.   Our culture has made it hard on parents to be able to afford to give gifts duirng Christmas; because getting gifts is much more important to us then actually going to church.  Yes, we can tell them the real meaning of Christmas; but to a child it is hard when their class mates start talking about what they got for Christmas.  Some of you talk about giving during the holidays, but how many of you go to the store or walk down the street and see someone less fortunate then you and not think something ugly about that person.   People who use food stamps at the store, do you think it is sad that that person can't afford food on their own or is it "well there's another welfare person using up my tax dollars".  Or the kid who doesn't have clean clothes or hair is unkept; but do you all do during the year for those who have less then you.  Christmas should be just 12 days long, it should be 360 days a year.

I find Christmas  too commericalized and our country actually has forgotten the true meaing of what Christmas is all about.  Stores have stopped using the "Merry Christmas" greeting; the putting up of the Christmas tree or any thing realated to Christ's birthday is challenged.   We are all to blame and we don't do anything about it.   Nothing.

To those women who find themselves in hardship way at Christmas.  I hope that next year for you will be better.   Just hang in there and hug your kids.

I understand that people are less fortunate. Some people look at ME and have pity for what I don't have. That's life. I just don't understand why some people feel the need to drag down other people who enjoy Christmas.

It's almost as if, if you just enjoy the holidays then you are some how superficial. It's as if there is no line drawn between people like me, who do the gift thing modestly, but do the celebrating part HUGELY (which is free) and those who have screaming brats in the toy section of the store.

I hope you don't make your kids feel blue. There are free things to make a great Christmas, snow ball fights, singing, playing games. Things that cost very little like buying a few strings of lights and buying a plastic sled.

I grew up poor, on food stamps. We got only one or two small things at Christmas time. And my memories of Christmas were so wonderful, why? Because my parents didn't mope at those who had more than us, we were too busy having fun, making memories, looking at decorations, singing songs....My memories of Christmas are good, NOT because of what I got, but because of my family being together and laughing.

Missing the Good Times

Quote From: dasmith74

Wow - all I can really say about this show was WOW. I'm sorry I wasn't there. I do my share of donating to toys for tots and other charities. My work & church have angels trees and I make sure I get a few. Christmas to me is about "GIVING" not receiving and I really think some don't appreciate the really meaning.

Happy Holidays Dr. Phil to you and your family.

Danielle Smith

Maryland

I am a disabled single mother of 3 boys that are teenagers now.  Toys for Tots say they are too old. Last year the salvation army donated a box of food for a dinner and some toys but all of the toys I ended up giving to other needy families since they were all more for children about 5 years younger than my boys.  We live on such a fixed income I cannot pay all my bills let alone buy clothes or things my kids wish for that they see their friends getting for birthdays and other occassions.  I do have a car which is very old and in need of repair to be safe to drive. I do not have any insurance so it just sits. We have not had a Christmas tree in 3 years but my children would rather have gifts or anything else than to buy a tree. I am stressed out and depressed all the time but just before thanksgiving until after the new Year it seems all I do is cry watching the happy shows on tv or thinking how things used to be.  : ' (

12/11 Dr. Phil and Robin’s Christmas Show!

Quote From: markvalv6

I'm glad the show is over!

While I am happy that Dr. Phil & Family are able to do this for needy people in the audience, it is too over the top!  Whatever happened to sharing the wealth with all the needy.

I donate to Toys for Tots and this year adopted an angel (15 year old boy) for the holiday season.  His wish?  A pair of jeans, shirt and a world globe!  Not Justin Timberlake jeans, just a pair of pants.

I'm not mad, not jealous at all, just sad...sad for all those that won't have anything for Christmas.

I've been there - as a child, I had a sickly father and brother and if it weren't for the generosity of others, nothing would've come to our house.  As it was, we received a basket of food and I received a book.  I think of that every Christmas season and every time I pick up a book.

TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS,
HE LIVED ALL ALONE,
IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE MADE OF
PLASTER AND STONE.

I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY
WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE,
AND TO SEE JUST WHO
IN THIS HOME DID LIVE.

I LOOKED ALL ABOUT,
A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE,
NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS,
NOT EVEN A TREE.

NO STOCKING BY MANTLE,
JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND,
ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES
OF FAR DISTANT LANDS.

WITH MEDALS AND BADGES,
AWARDS OF ALL KINDS, A SOBER THOUGHT
CAME THROUGH MY MIND.

FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT,
IT WAS DARK AND DREARY,
I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER,
ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY.

THE SOLDIER LAY SLEEPING,
SILENT, ALONE,
CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR
IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME.

THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE,
THE ROOM IN SUCH DISORDER,
NOT HOW I PICTURED
A UNITED STATES SOLDIER.

WAS THIS THE HERO
OF WHOM I 'D JUST READ?
CURLED UP ON A PONCHO,
THE FLOOR FOR A BED?

I REALIZED THE FAMILIES
THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT,
OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS
WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT.

SOON ROUND THE WORLD,
THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY,
AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE
A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY.

THEY ALL ENJOYED FREEDOM
EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR,
BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS,
LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE.

I COULDN'T HELP WONDER
HOW MANY LAY ALONE,
ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE
IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME.

THE VERY THOUGHT
BROUGHT A TEAR TO MY EYE,
I DROPPED TO MY KNEES
AND STARTED TO CRY.

THE SOLDIER AWAKENED
AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE,
"SANTA DON'T CRY,
THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE";

I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM,
I DON'T ASK FOR MORE,
MY LIFE IS MY GOD,
MY COUNTRY, MY HOME."

THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER
AND DRIFTED TO SLEEP,
I COULDN'T CONTROL IT,
I CONTINUED TO WEEP.

I KEPT WATCH FOR HOURS,
SO SILENT AND STILL
AND WE BOTH SHIVERED
FROM THE COLD NIGHT'S CHILL.

I DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE
ON THAT COLD, DARK, NIGHT,
THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOR
SO WILLING TO FIGHT.

THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER,
WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE,
WHISPERED, "CARRY ON SANTA,
IT'S CHRISTMAS DAY, ALL IS SECURE."

ONE LOOK AT MY WATCH,
AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT.
"MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND,
AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT."

This poem was written by an unnamed Soldier. The
following is his request. I think it is reasonable.....

PLEASE. Would you do me the kind favor of sending this to as many people as you can? Christmas will be coming soon and some credit is due to our U.S. service men and women for our being able to celebrate these festivities. Let's try in this small way to pay a tiny bit of what we owe. Make people stop and think of our heroes, living and dead, who sacrificed themselves for us. Please, do your small part to pass on this small seed.
THAT POEM WAS SO TOUCHING,i copied and pasted it hope its ok to do so as i wish to send it to my sisters son who currently servs in the united states navy, also my best friends son is on his way to irac, and i kno it will mean alot to him to be able to mail a copy of this to his son, thank you for posting this,it touched my heart as i read it, the unnamed Soldier who wrote this should have given his name, he has a gift with words!

Dr. Phil and Robin's Christmas Show

Dear Dr. Phil and staff,

It is encouraging to know that the, "Dr. Phil" show does a Christmas giveaway.  It brought tears to my eyes because giving is a bigger blessing than receiving.

I am in a less than fortunate situation, but I never give up faith.  My husband has been away from home for four months so that he can provide for the family.  We are living without some basic necessities so that we can get by.  He truly is a wonderful man and I wish that he could come home, but we cannot afford it.  I cry every night because I miss him.

A few years ago, he was stationed in Iraq as a civilian so that we could make ends meat.  Now he has to take jobs out of state to provide for the boys.

When I am not in college full-time, I work to compensate for our income...but we are just not getting ahead.  We keep going further and further behind.  We are law-abiding citizens, and hardworking; yet, we have nothing to show for our work.  Please do not misunderstand me, we never look for paybacks...it is just hard when you are sleeping on a mattress on the floor with barely any money to pay your bills.

I just wanted to, "Thank You" for doing the show, and it reminds me to never give up my generous spirit.
