Ostentatious

I'm glad the show is over!

While I am happy that Dr. Phil & Family are able to do this for needy people in the audience, it is too over the top!  Whatever happened to sharing the wealth with all the needy.

I donate to Toys for Tots and this year adopted an angel (15 year old boy) for the holiday season.  His wish?  A pair of jeans, shirt and a world globe!  Not Justin Timberlake jeans, just a pair of pants.

I'm not mad, not jealous at all, just sad...sad for all those that won't have anything for Christmas.

I've been there - as a child, I had a sickly father and brother and if it weren't for the generosity of others, nothing would've come to our house.  As it was, we received a basket of food and I received a book.  I think of that every Christmas season and every time I pick up a book.

TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS,
HE LIVED ALL ALONE,
IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE MADE OF
PLASTER AND STONE.

I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY
WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE,
AND TO SEE JUST WHO
IN THIS HOME DID LIVE.

I LOOKED ALL ABOUT,
A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE,
NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS,
NOT EVEN A TREE.

NO STOCKING BY MANTLE,
JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND,
ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES
OF FAR DISTANT LANDS.

WITH MEDALS AND BADGES,
AWARDS OF ALL KINDS, A SOBER THOUGHT
CAME THROUGH MY MIND.

FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT,
IT WAS DARK AND DREARY,
I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER,
ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY.

THE SOLDIER LAY SLEEPING,
SILENT, ALONE,
CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR
IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME.

THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE,
THE ROOM IN SUCH DISORDER,
NOT HOW I PICTURED
A UNITED STATES SOLDIER.

WAS THIS THE HERO
OF WHOM I 'D JUST READ?
CURLED UP ON A PONCHO,
THE FLOOR FOR A BED?

I REALIZED THE FAMILIES
THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT,
OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS
WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT.

SOON ROUND THE WORLD,
THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY,
AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE
A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY.

THEY ALL ENJOYED FREEDOM
EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR,
BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS,
LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE.

I COULDN'T HELP WONDER
HOW MANY LAY ALONE,
ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE
IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME.

THE VERY THOUGHT
BROUGHT A TEAR TO MY EYE,
I DROPPED TO MY KNEES
AND STARTED TO CRY.

THE SOLDIER AWAKENED
AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE,
"SANTA DON'T CRY,
THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE";

I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM,
I DON'T ASK FOR MORE,
MY LIFE IS MY GOD,
MY COUNTRY, MY HOME."

THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER
AND DRIFTED TO SLEEP,
I COULDN'T CONTROL IT,
I CONTINUED TO WEEP.

I KEPT WATCH FOR HOURS,
SO SILENT AND STILL
AND WE BOTH SHIVERED
FROM THE COLD NIGHT'S CHILL.

I DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE
ON THAT COLD, DARK, NIGHT,
THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOR
SO WILLING TO FIGHT.

THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER,
WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE,
WHISPERED, "CARRY ON SANTA,
IT'S CHRISTMAS DAY, ALL IS SECURE."

ONE LOOK AT MY WATCH,
AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT.
"MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND,
AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT."

This poem was written by an unnamed Soldier. The
following is his request. I think it is reasonable.....

PLEASE. Would you do me the kind favor of sending this to as many people as you can? Christmas will be coming soon and some credit is due to our U.S. service men and women for our being able to celebrate these festivities. Let's try in this small way to pay a tiny bit of what we owe. Make people stop and think of our heroes, living and dead, who sacrificed themselves for us. Please, do your small part to pass on this small seed.

A Thank you to Dr. Phil

I just wanted to write a thank you. My daughter got me hooked on your show as she watches it everyday after school. Today was your holiday special. Being a single father and less financially advantaged, I understand all too well the struggles to provide a Christmas for my children. Toys for tots has made it possible for me to provide a good Christmas for my children in the past. This year my daughter isn’t eligible because she is not only a teen, but about to become a mother herself.

Watching your show today, and seeing just how big your heart was and the generosity of everyone that was on your show. I had tears in my eyes nearly the whole show. Just so no one don’t gets the wrong idea. I wasn’t focused on the things that I could provide. Instead I celebrated the joy that you brought others through your effort with toys for tots and the joy I saw in your audience members.

Now that I feel I can truly enjoy the holidays. For that I give great thanks.

You've Gotta Believe

Todays show really brought tears to my eyes. I use to be one of those people who bought for the ones who couldnt afford much. Every year I bought extra gifts for my cousins who's parents couldnt afford much and I really enjoyed doing it.  I bought for everyone at work, put money in the salvation bucket everytime I went by. But this year the tables have turned on me. I havent been able to work in 11 months and my husbands income just isn't enough to get by on. But we are told he make to much to get help. We have no one to help us. I didnt even want to put the tree up. I have explained things to my children and they said they understand but i know they dont deserve this kind of life. I love my kids more than life itself. I wish I could give them a Christmas. But so far it dosent look that way. I will continue to pray to the Lord and see what he has in store for us.

As for the show Dr. Phil and  Robin's Heart's are in the Right place and thats what is important.

12/11 Dr. Phil and Robin’s Christmas Show!

Merry Christmas Dr. Phil!  THANK YOU for another wonderful Christmas show!  :D

Every year my daughter and I look forward to your Christmas give away shows.  We have such fun watching them!    :)    This year, our favorite parts were when the doc gave away the mixer and the one lady in the crowd jumped up with tears in her eyes thanking him.  :D   We also laughed at all the women jumping to their feet over the vacuums.  HA HA   :)

You gave away so many wonderful amazing gifts and we wanted to thank you so very much for your generosity!

 MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Tina and Stephanie

I so agree

By the time I got myself registered to post here, markvalv6 had very eloquently voiced my own feelings.  Deserving audience members - OK...but the loot give away was excessive.  I found myself getting increasingly upset as each bigger and better give away was revealed.

What broke the camel's back for me was a call from my sister-in-law who wanted to know what I HADN'T bought on the suggestion list she provided for my young niece and nephew so that she could go out and get the rest of it.  More "over the top"

No wonder people don't value what they have anymore - it's all so easy.

Christmas Show

Dr. Phil and Robin,

I love your show so much and was very upset today when I realized I missed the Christmas show.  I was volunteering at the hospital and stayed longer than usual.  Will this show be airing at another time in the future?  Keep up the good work .  God Bless you in all your endeavors.                                                                  Marilyn

The show

Wow - all I can really say about this show was WOW. I'm sorry I wasn't there. I do my share of donating to toys for tots and other charities. My work & church have angels trees and I make sure I get a few. Christmas to me is about "GIVING" not receiving and I really think some don't appreciate the really meaning.

Happy Holidays Dr. Phil to you and your family.

Awesome Show!!

I really enjoyed watching this show today!! My 12 yr old chitlin got home just as they were giving away the wii...lol...and of course he was MOM MOM MOM!!! The one thing he wants for Christmas, that of course I can't afford even if I COULD find it!! Then he shocks me.He said, "Mom, you know what I really want for Christmas?" Umm...well yeah, a wii. "No, mom". A PS3? "Nope". Underwear? Socks? Peace in Iraq? "No, mom, well, yeah, but what I want most is for you to quit smoking this year. Oh, and underwear cuz I'm outgrowing all the others". ::::sigh::: Called to talk to my Dr. about the new drug Pfizer has out to see if she thinks it would work, and am going to try and sign up for the Pfizer free drug plan since I don't have insurance. So I'll be signing up tomorrow to win the prizes, he'll get the wii, the gift card will be used to buy the patch to go along with the drugs, and most of the rest will be either given to Toys for Tots or auctioned off on Ebay with the proceeds going to them. (OK, I have to keep a few things...the video recorder for my son's Band/Choir performances, and maybe the Cuisinart grill thingy and the Omaha steaks)!!!

Thanks again Dr Phil and Robin for supporting such a wonderful cause. Although we qualify for the annual Christmas give-away due to my income, I won't take advantage of it because there are just so many more that are worse off than we are. My son won't have a wii under the tree, but he'll have new underwear!!! And hopefully a child with not even a tree will have a gift they wouldn't have had otherwise.

Merry Christmas everyone!!!

Todays christmas show

Way to go Dr.Phil and Robin for having such a great show. I thought it was great that you gave those toys to those wonderful children in New Orleans. I was glad to see how generous you were with sharing with your studio audience as well. Its great to see so many giving in this time of the year.
