(Original Air Date: 10/29/07) Fraud. lies. conspiracy. They may sound like the latest Washington scandal, but these are allegations of exes at war over child support. Dr. Phil's guests claim they became victims of the perfect crime when they were led to believe they fathered a child that was not biologically their own and were forced to pay. First up, Enrique says he was shocked and angered to discover he was not the father of his youngest daughter, Selina, and that she was conceived during his ex-wife, Maria's, adulterous affair. Maria says he raised Selina but then abandoned her to save money. Why does Maria say Enrique's current wife is to blame for the fractured relationship? Next, 13-year-old Selina speaks one on one with Dr. Phil. Will she decide to let the man she once called Daddy back in her life? Then, Carnell Smith, who uses the online moniker, "Man4Justice," suffered a similar fate to Enrique, and but he fought and won. He says he's tired of seeing women trap men and get away with it. A heated debate ensues between him and feminist attorney, Gloria Allred, who argues that men like Enrique should continue to act as the father ... and continue paying! Talk about the show here.

Find out what happened on the show.

DNA Test At Birth

We need to do dna tests at birth on all babies as part of the law.  I believe a man has a right to know if the child his wife gives birth to is his or not.  Obviously, we can't always rely on a woman being truthful.  Of coarse this may cause alot of problems for a couple that learns the child is not the fathers but at least it can be found out early on.  Perhaps the hospital staff can call in a therapist to talk to the couple and get the situation under control so all can move forward in the best interest of the child.  What a tangled web we weave!

Fraud

Quote From: fromthesquare

Imagine the other side of the coin?  The man raises the child as his own, making that child part of his world.  Suppose the wife suspected the child was not her husband's but did not tell him.  Shameful, right?  In a divorce should the wife be able to produce DNA evidence and exclude the man from the life of the child?  Colorado's laws on this protect both parties and the child.

Nope, she shouldn't, BUT it happens.....

The point being...a man should have a choice, it should NOT be made for him.

I think he should not have hand over financiall support to the woman who decieved him.  Let her go find the bio dad and let him support the child financially. Would the husband even have stayed in the marriage had he known his wife cheated and the child wasn't his? Who knowns? He was never given the choice!

What about the emotional bond she robbed the child of with her bio dad? He has missed out also.

And really, if you think about it, I don't think a woman should be able to go after a man out of the blue and demand child support from he bio dad and then they go back all those years and make him pay..it should start from the time he found out, because once again, it's her fault for waiting so long, plus she should have to pay back all the money she frauded the alleged father of.

10/29 Parent Trap

I don't see how it took 13 years and a new wife for Enrique to see that Selina was his biological child. I thought the same thing his new wife did the first time I saw her on the show. Enrique could not be that child's dad. My money is on the real dad being black.

All the terrible things happening here are the total fault of Maria being a lying, cheaing *****. Maria should not get a dime more form Enriquie, but maybe he could start a college fund for Selina. He might not be a part of her present but he could have a positive infuence on her future.

My wish would be that Selina would have a relationship with Enrique and they could find out together that they are both victims of Maria's inability to be a moral human being.

lies

l think what he did was wrong, just wrong. the mother should of been upfront long time ago and said that he mighgt not be the father. now the daughter has to suffer more then he is and the mother. l do know that laws r different in every state. l am from michigan and the law states here that no matter who the mother slept with the man she is married to is the father. like l said the laws r different. lm just disgusted that the parents have put this young lady in the middle and she is the one really suffering.

PARENT TRAP

If you have been determined by DNA evidence that a child is not your own and is indeed someone else's you should not have to pay child support.  I realize the government is strapped for money, however this should not play any part in having someone that has not fathered a child pay for the child.  Certainly the needs of the child comes first.  The mother should know who the father of her child or children is. Just because someone is married or was married or in a relationship at the time should not suggest that they should take care of the child if there was an affair. This law (which exists in some states)  should be re-examined and if a mother knowingly claimed a man is the father of their child and they are not they should in my opinion be prosecuted.

the women's responsibity

Quote From: jelebean1

Are you saying it is more the woman's responsibility to provide and take care of the child?

All the so-called "lliberated" women of today claim that their body is theirs to do with what they want. Unwanted pregnancy-get rid of it. Want a baby with not man involved--do it. Wants to screw around on her husband--do it. But thanks to birth control, she should never have gotten pregnant. Then she has the nerve to be upset when her husband does not want to continue to pay support to a child that isn't his.

The mother is the villian here. It's a pity that Selina can't see that. Her daddy is just as much a victim of her mother as she is.

When a woman ,married or single perpetrates an untruth when it comes to child paternity, then, yes, it is her responsibility.

Maybe this show can be a wakeup call to women who just screw with abandon and don't use birth control. Look at the mess it can cause.

10/29 Parent Trap

Quote From: suallen1

The actual biological father should have to pay support.  If the child and former "father" wishes to continue a good and established relationship, then it is of best interest to do so.  That does not mean financial support to the mother.  She has already done him enough wrong.

I absolutely agree!!!!  The mis-lead father should be allowed to continue the relationship, but not be responsible for the money aspect.  This way, the child and man are not held responsible for what the so called 'woman' did to both of these innocent people.

MONEY IS NOT THE MOST IMPORTANT ISSUE

THIS CHILD IS INNOCENT REGARDLESS OF WHAT THE MOTHER DID OR HOW THIS MAN FEELS. HOW CAN YOU JUST TURN YOUR BACK ON WHAT YOU LOVE? IT SEEMS THAT HIS NEW WIFE HAS A LITTLE TOO MUCH INPUT. HIS LOVE FOR HIS DAUGHTER SHOULD HAVE MADE HIM HANDLE THIS SITUATION IN A MORE MATURE WAY. MY HEART ACHES FOR THE KIDS THEY ALWAYS END UP SUFFERING FOR OUR IDIOTIC DECISIONS.

heh

the father should not be paying anything to the mother. he morally should continue his relationship with the girl, but he should have the right to choose what he wants to do, morally and legally. he should also be re-embursed by the mother, and she should definately suffer consiquences. i would kick her ass if i was him.

future medical issues

I have had the same experience as the wife on the show today. My ex-boyfriend's son was not his and he found out about it after he was put on the birth cert. He told the mom he was going to tell the son and she had a court order him to not tell him. He could legally get into trouble for telling him! My concerns are (other then the obvious), what happens in the future when both the mom and "dad" are deceased and the son needs an organ transplant or blood or anything else that could possibly come from a parent. Not to mention the emotional distress he will suffer if he finds out from medical personnel as opposed to his actual parents.  At that time, he cannot even have counseling with his parents to heal from this. How tragic to have your life flipped up-side-down and you not even able to express your feelings to the person responsible. He has also asked his dad why his brother looks just like him (the dad) and he looks nothing like him (the dad). They look nothing alike and it is very clear!!!
