(Original Air Date: 10/29/07) Fraud. lies. conspiracy. They may sound like the latest Washington scandal, but these are allegations of exes at war over child support. Dr. Phil's guests claim they became victims of the perfect crime when they were led to believe they fathered a child that was not biologically their own and were forced to pay. First up, Enrique says he was shocked and angered to discover he was not the father of his youngest daughter, Selina, and that she was conceived during his ex-wife, Maria's, adulterous affair. Maria says he raised Selina but then abandoned her to save money. Why does Maria say Enrique's current wife is to blame for the fractured relationship? Next, 13-year-old Selina speaks one on one with Dr. Phil. Will she decide to let the man she once called Daddy back in her life? Then, Carnell Smith, who uses the online moniker, "Man4Justice," suffered a similar fate to Enrique, and but he fought and won. He says he's tired of seeing women trap men and get away with it. A heated debate ensues between him and feminist attorney, Gloria Allred, who argues that men like Enrique should continue to act as the father ... and continue paying! Talk about the show here.

Find out what happened on the show.

10/29 Parent Trap

I have sympathy for any man that has been forced to pay support for any child that is not his.  However, one very important point that everyone is missing is that this man and his first wife were living as a family for 10 years with their 2 beautiful children!! What a wonderful thing to give that to those girls.  How dare he, by virtue of  his new and insensitve second wife, question that so many years later and then simply withdraw based on principal.  In this case, he is obvioulsy being led by his you-know-what, and that is more dispicable to me that his first wife trying to preserve her family (which is clearly what she was doing by hiding her affair).

10/29 Parent Trap

Quote From: makeupartist4u

Todays program was excellent and I, too, feel the child always comes first. In my opinion, todays show was more of a moral issue than a legal issue. I feel the law should not require a woman to divulge to their spouse whether or not she is having extra marital affairs. The reasoning behind my belief is I feel this is a personal and moral decision and besides the law does not require men to do the same. Enrique should  take responsibility for the fact that he married this woman and most of us should know what Forest Gump knew so well (thanks to his momma), life is like a box of chocolate youll never know what you are going to get. Both Maria and Enrique made mistakes and they should stop pointing fingers at each other and they should do the right thing for Selena.

In an ideal world, I think the right thing is (if Selena accepts) to allow Selena visitations with Enrique without requiring him to pay child support and lots of therapy for Selena.  Also, in my ideal world he should not object to contributing to Selenas emotional and financial stability. I feel Selenas new stepmother should have minded her own business. If Selenas mother started this ordeal, her stepmother sure added lots of fuel to the fire. All she cares about is the extra money in her pocket all at the expense of a childs mental and emotional wellbeing. Totally heartless! Who made the biggest mistake the woman that gave this man an adorable child or the woman who is trying to rid him of his child?

Enrique is Mia's husband, therefore, it is her business if her husband is being frauded and lied to.

The law should require women to divulge that she had an affair IF she is pregnant and/or the possibility of there being another father.

There are no ifs as to who created this mess. Mia had every right to suggest a DNA test.

it seems to me i would want to know the truth

The new "Mrs" didn't make an issue of it....she simply suggested a DNA test.....BIG DEAL.

Once again, Enrique had every right to know this child wasn't his bio child, but then again, he had a right to know 13 years ago. Enrique didn't make it all about him.....yes, he made a bad decision, but is sorry for that.

Selina said she didn't know if she wanted to have contact with Enrique........the person she should never want contact with again should be her mother............she created the mess to begin with.

about who my parents are. i would rather find out early in life then get on in years and find out from someone else. this women lied to her own daughter no telling what other lies she has told. i don't the the new "mrs" make an issue either. don't forget she's under pressure too with new marriage, court issues, financial issues, etc. that a lot of stress for anyone to handle no matter what kind of person you are. i would want my husband to tell me if he knew somthing was a lie. it's what marriage is. i don't keep things from my husband, he's my best friend.

10/29 Parent Trap

Quote From: joyklein

I think men in these circumstances should be able to sue these women for fraud. It's no different than someone misrepresenting themselves as an investor and then bilking innocent people of hard earned money. That's a crime punishable by jail and fines, as it should be for these women. No one can put a price on the emotional and mental stress their dishonesty causes but they should still be held liable legally. Women who've done this to men AND their children...SHAME ON YOU! Men who've gone through this...I'm terribly sorry and hope you can some day find peace.
Amen and Amen, and I am a wife and a mom of 2 boys.  Would that deceit of this magnitude were punishable by law, things might change!  If I were on the jury, I'd sock it to this supposed "mom."

Do what is best for the child!

Until 1976 the law in Louisiana was that there was an irrebutable presumption that the husband was the father of any child born during a marriage.  This law was intended to protect children from the pain and disruption that would be caused by any challenge to paternity.  When DNA testing became possible, the law was changed to provide some relief to duped husbands, but it allows the husband only one year following the birth of the child to challenge paternity.

I feel that the current Louisiana law is a good compromise:  it gives husbands short-term protection while at the same time providing stability for the older child.

I can understand how a duped man may resent his wife and resent having to make payments,  but I do not understand how he could ever stop supporting a child he has been a "father" to.   Any child would equate termination of financial support with rejection and no loving "father" should put his child through that.  As Dr. Phil says, children should never have to deal with adult issues.  Let the father pay support and sue the mother for reimbursement.  But keep the child out of it!

You have got to be kidding me that women has every right to be involved I to am the wife of a paternity fraud victim and you have no clue the effect it puts on a marriage.  These women use child support as a form of punishment how does that benifit a child?. My husband pays the maxium amount of child support to a women who has never worked a day in her life and our child his biological child is left without financial support from her biological father how is that FAIR?????????

I agree with you!

Everyone keeps saying it's all about the money with Enrique and his wife..............

what they aren't stopping to see.....it is all about the money with Maria...............why else didn't she go after the bio dad? Oh, why would she when she can name Enrique as the father, who happens to be a M.D. and get all kinds of MONEY from him? Maria is the only money hongry person I see.

Um... Mia should have stayed out of Enrique's relationship with his child.  Period.

10/29 Parent Trap

Quote From: ladypat26

Marabella, you are right on, these are my sentiments exactly.  It amazes me how everyone keeps harping on the money and the lying mother, all of which has merit, but the real culprit here is the 2nd wife.  What could she have possibly gained from all this but to hurt a little girl?  What besides this has been gained???
Amen, Marabella.  Well said.

10/29 Parent Trap

Quote From: cr1441

What this mother did was totally wrong and to let it go on for years is horrid, BUT what she did pales in comparison to what that man did to Selena.  She was totally innocent and was treated cruelly by someone who swore to "do no harm."  DNA is not the only factor in being a parent.
MONEY ISINT EITHER!!!
