(Original Air Date: 11/29/07) Obesity is a huge problem for adults in this country, but now it’s becoming an epidemic among young children. Barbra says her 3-year-old daughter started gaining weight at six months old and now weighs 80 pounds. Barbra and her aunt, Dana, are baffled by what they believe is a medical mystery because they say the little girl doesn't overeat. Dr. Phil brings in two medical experts to get to the bottom of this issue. Is Barbra contributing to her child's weight gain? Then, Tammy says she can’t change her family's eating habits. She's obese, her 11-year-old is 175 pounds and her 9-year-old is 136 pounds. Her sister, Debbie, says the boys portion sizes are too big and the family is just lazy. Can Dr. Phil get Tammy to stick to a nutrition plan? You won’t believe the surprise he has for her! Plus, Jessica says her mom, Angie, is blind to the health issues of her 351-pound sister, Jaleisa, who is only 15. Jessica says her mom never buys healthy food, and she fears her mom has Munchausen’s syndrome. Angie says she can’t monitor Jaleisa’s eating habits all day. Can Angie turn this situation around and save her daughter’s life, or is it too late? Talk about the show here.

Find out what happened on the show.

LOL! The treadmill is not for everyone...the day after a good run, I practically fall out of bed my legs are so tight. If you get shin splints, you should lie on your back with your legs up....flex and point your toes over and over to stretch . It really helps.

We have no hills in Florida. But it is already in the mid 90's with major allergens. I have been keeping my exercise INSIDE...but I actually love that sweaty, completely spent feeling after a good run. If you are in an area of high elevation that makes it SO much harder. We visited friends in Angel Fire, NM...way up in the mountains. At first I laughed because they had an elevator in their three story house...then I did the stairs a few times. No more laughing...WAY more elevator!!

Hey I used to live in Florida (two years ago).  I did use to go roller blading once in awhile.    However once when I was blading on the sidewalk I hit a crack and flew through the air, flipped, then rolled into the street, coming to a not so soft landing on my derriere.  I could have died from embarrassment, wished I did.  Because if I had I wouldn't have got back on the sidewalk and started up again, only to trip at warp speed yet again on another crack, only 50ft or so away from the first blunder.   And yes I went sailing through the air, landing with a lovely full on front body plant.  Thankfully I had all my gear on, wrist straps, knee pads and such.   It still hurt though.   I made it a point after that to never go up that street again.   Whoever'd been looking out the window I'm sure must have thought,  "What a Numpty".

Speaking of which.  Where is Penny?  Are you lurking about girl?   Hope you're okay hun and no mean thoughts are rearing their ugly heads.
I have to tell you, although I'm not Penny, and I hope she's o.k. too, I often have mean thoughts  lurking in my brain. When I type them, they sometimes come out as sarcasm, sometimes as messages with a hidden meaning, sometimes I can't even type them because I know they wouldn't put them through. It is very hard for me to process mean into acceptable sometimes. Does anyone else have that problem?

there's the lack of exercise part of the equation that Penny and others, including myself, keep briniging up.
Yes, exercise is really powerful...it can go a long way for many people. Exercising regularly reduces my appetite quite a bit.

I'm lucky, I happen to enjoy exercise.

Been there, done that. Sometimes I think it's just because we women are expected to be so "nice" all day, every day and the internet is a place where we can, sort of, let it all out anonymously.

Maybe it's the devil in me but I sort of enjoy a, shall we say," lively" debate now and then.

It's rather hot here in southwest VA. I'm trying not to complain, expecially when I see the tornadoes and floods in other places. But, I find myself lurking INSIDE near the air conditioner.

06/04 Too Big, Too Young

Quote From: getrealtime

I'll grant that a thin person can die at a young age too, But these kids, its just not about health for them, its social too, These kids just don't have a little chubb their packing a hole other person around on their backs, and that can't be good!!! child hood should be filled with running and jumping, riding a bike as fast as you can kind of thing and keeping up with their peers. A disability did not take these things away, their parents did, If they want to be large and in charge when they get older then that will be up to them its their life and they are old enough to choose their life style, but until then its up to the parents to insure their childs, childhood,  happiness and health

Yes, cause why should the bullies have to change? Oh wait, I forgot the bullies are concerned about their health too right? It's not because they're an easy target, and that fat is one of the last openly acceptable prejudices, no it's not about that.

Social should be the last reason one should want to loose weight. People who pick on others for whatever reason, should be told off. I'm tired of the claim that you're caring about someone's health, as an excuse to fat shame them. If you cared about their health, you'd listen to them and hear what they have to say. They might say they're perfectly healthy at the weight they're currently at, and you're just going to have to deal with it.

Amazing, belittling the fat kids, and supporting bully behaviour. If hate made people thin, nobody would be fat.

Hey Penny!  Well good for you!  I should do the same.  I'm shooting for planting some flowers.  Maybe the gym and I really need to fold the laundry thats piled to the ceiling in my room.  I'm sure it's nice and wrinkled by now.
