No, but scissors do!

Quote From: teechk

I am a teacher & we only get paid twice a month.  I budget well, but sometimes time gets away from us & you write a bill out a little late.  Last year I made 2 payments a day or 2 late to my Capital One credit card.  They jacked up my rate to the default rate or 25%.  I called them several times trying to get them to work with me on lowering my rate.  THEY REFUSED.  I then told them to close my account.  They said they would once the balance was paid.  I continued to pay monthly (I only had a $2,000 balance on a limit of $25,000.) but called them every couple months to ask again to lower my interest rate.  THEY REFUSED.  They said that my account was in "closing status" & they couldn't adjust my rate since it was in closing status.  I paid off my balance, told them to NEVER SEND ME ANY CORRESPONDANCE AGAIN and what do you know, the letter comes offering me a LOW interest rate to keep my credit card with them.  From the first time I called them to try & negotiate with them, I cut up the card, threw it out & never charged on that account again.

My husband & I had the bad misfortune 2 summers ago of being the victims of debit card fraud & our bank account was drained of all our bill paying money.  But we managed to work through it, get the money back from the bank & pay all our bills.

A couple weeks ago, the HUGE car dealership my husband worked for filed Chapter 11 & they were told on Monday that things were fine & on Wednesday, you no longer have a job.  My husband got on the phone & made arrangements to start another job the following week.  He lost a week's worth of pay & has taken a pay cut.  But we are working through it & paying all our bills.

We feel for people having a rough time of it, as we are those people.  However, we have made sacrifices & try to always make good financial choices for the long run.  Once you have debit card fraud hit you & unreasonable credit card companies, you learn to live in a "cash" world rather than using cards.  Just like other Dr. Phil viewers, it does irritate us to think that those of us who continue to pay our bills despite the unfortunate circumstances we have encountered, don't get any help while others who MADE BAD CHOICES will get the free handouts.

Cut up those credit cards.  Even if you can't get your account formally closed cut it up and get rid of them and start living in reality by using cash.

Capital One is a nightmare-I had an account with no balance and they kept playing games saying the account was closed and then I would still get statements and they would still insist I had a credit card with them.  Finally I sent them a certified letter and that took care of it-at least I hope.  Of course my Capitol One nightmare story is nothing compared to my Citibank nightmare story.

I current have zero credit cards and would not have it any other way.  The best thing you can do is dumb your plastic(after you shred it).  The second best is to get it from a credit union or local bank.   But I still recommend number 1 way above all.

I have a real problem with this

Quote From: thebridwells

When Bush was running for his second term everyone knew then he wasn't fit to lead this country and was running the economy into the ground. The people of this nation voted him into office again anyway. Now for years they have been whining about what has happened to our country. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that the Republican Party can't manage our tax dollars. So for all you voters that put Bush back in the White House all I can say is, "You made your bed, now sleep in it." It's a shame that the other voters who didn't vote for the Republicans have to lay there with you. So stop your crying, we're tired of hearing it.  Hopefully you've learned your lessons and you can make a more informed decision when you go to the polls in the coming election.
Look I dislike Bush as much as the next person, but to blame Bush alone for the economic collapse of the country is lame.  That is because ALL of us are responsible for it, although some more than others.   Now everyone wants to blame there irresponsible and selfish decisions on the government and quite honestly I find it ridiculous.   It was average citizens who bought the houses they could not afford, who then bought SUVs they couldn't afford to park in the driveway, and then on top of that charged away ridiculous amounts of gas in part causing the spike in gas prices.   Go take responsibilities for yourselves and stop blaming others for your mistakes.

Just look at how the voting went on the bailout bill.  Even as a liberal I have no choose but to vote against the local corporate loving Democrat who posted demeaning words on his web page lying to people like me about what is and isn't good for us and voted for the bailout theft bill.   So I will vote green if that option is available, independent or libertarian if it isn't and if I am left with no other option I will vote Republican.   But one thing is for certain I will vote against him for what he did to me and the way he has disrespected me.

And overall the Democrats had more votes for these corrupt bailout bills than the Republicans.   Not exactly the peoples party!

All in One stores are the worst place to go!

Quote From: farmwife2337

I agree with a lot of the posts here.  People got houses, cars, and what ever else they wanted and could not afford.  What we all need to do now is get back to the basics.  My husband and I own and operate a dairy farm in Wisconsin and have had to make changes in our lives.  Not only have we been hit with the same price hikes as everyone else (gas, food ect.) but we also have the price hikes of diesel, feed for our cows and so on.  We took a look at what we were spending in groceries and other household items.  I spend wayyy to much at Walmart.  We have recently started making household products, yup just like our grandparents used to do.  We save so much now by making laundry soap, dish soap, dishwasher soap, toothpaste, ketchup, mayo and the list goes on and on.  We don't need to spend $3 on tooth paste when we can make it for $.50.  Or spend $13 on laundry soap when we can make it for less than $3.  It is just crazy what we have all gotten used to thinking we need.  We planted a garden and I am now canning food.  Thank goodness my grandmother is still around because let me tell you, the number of people that don't know how to do alot of these things is growing.  This country needs to get back to the basics and stop spending, spending and spending...
Smart move to stop going to Walmart-both for your own sake and the sake of human rights.  Good for you for making products at home-great for your budget and the environment.

All in one stores are a nightmare.  People think they save money by going to them, but they actually end up spending more.   Impulse purchase items are strategically placed all over the store.   You end up spending more than you would at a specialty store.  When you shop make a list and only leave with things on the list.

Honestly, I don't know how to make laundary soap, dish soap or toothpaste put I would love to know how. I actually don't have a dishwasher, so that one I don't need to know, but maybe others would be interested.  Ketchup and Mayo I know how to do (although I don't use Mayo). Do you mind posting how to do these things or at least the laundary soap, dish soap and toothpaste?

How are you responsible customers...

Quote From: cusyboop

Dr. Phil,

Financial expert Jim Cramer suggested on today's show that consumers call their credit card companies to explain their financial situtation & that they should be sympathetic. He said "They're human too."  Well that is just what my husband did just yesterday. He called Bank of America to request lower minimum payments on 2 of his credit cards. My husband is fully employed & his job is stable. I, however, am a teacher on Long Island & unfortunately more districts have been cutting their staff than hiring new teachers. I am substituting full-time but the pay is not what we're used to. My husband has had these credit cards for over 10 years & cannot remember EVER making a late payment. We are loyal, responsible customers & figured that in a time like this a big corporation like Bank of America would  appreciate our business enough to compromise. Boy were we wrong!!! Instead they decided to close both my husband's accounts just because he asked the question. I am furious & scared. once we have these cards paid off we will never do business with Bank of America again. I hope there are still banks out there who know how to value their loyal customers.

...if your balance is so high that you can't even afford to make a minimum payment.

I don't use credit cards because these companies are corrupt selfish bailout bill (and other equally bad) legislation funding legal crime institutions.

As I have said before Credit Unions and Local Banks, don't but your money in the hands of the economic criminals.

Not blaming Bush

Lets get one thing straight,  you're right -its not Bush's fault that the economy did an about face when his administration took over. I'm not blaming him, I'm blaming the people who voted for him. And if I hit a sore spot with you maybe you shouldn't have voted for him. And as for being irresponsible about making purchases that you can't afford, that doesn't apply to me because unlike some I can manage my money and I live debt free. As I said before, you don't have to be a rocket scientist to see that Republicans can't manage our tax dollars. Awesome, I agree!

Quote From: lintru

For years a man in Texas has been the voice of reason. He has been warning people about what we would be facing if things kept going the way they where.

I myself only heard of Dr.Paul last year. And when I did. I woke up. And waking up was at first shocking..then painful...and now I am beyond PISSED OFF.

Can you tell me this..what part of the government is over the IRS? This answer might surprise most of you..but the answer is...NONE OF THEM. The IRS is a PRIVATE BANK (Google who owns the IRS)

It is 100% UNCONSTITUTIONAL and people never got angry enough to do a damn thing about it.

Because of 9-11...Bush started taking away our freedoms...Dont believe me? Have you read any of his new laws? And of all the crimes Bin Ladin has been charged with..why was he NEVER charged with 9-11?

Back to saving our asses...Ok people...We have Obamanation who wants to give 10% off the top of your pay to the UN...Your kid plan on going to college? Hope they like his form of slavery..He wants all students to work 1000 hours each school year, for free. (Picking up trash is one of the jobs listed) Dig deep...Obama LIED and voted for the Bail Out.

McCain...just Google Vets Against McCain and see what Johnny Songbird McCain was really up to, and the fact he turns his back on vets. He needs a new tune..I mean..he sang Bomb bomb bomb..bomb bomb IRAN...ahhhh..why????

Long ago the League of Women Voters held the debates. Then all of a sudden..they didnt. Why? Easy..because Americans where slowly waking up and seeing we dont need Rep. or Dem. There was (and still is) a 3rd Party!!!

Ask yourself what programs have government taken over and made better?

Answer:: ZERO

How would you rate our education system?

Health Care?

Homeland Security?

It is 10 times harder for an American to get back into this country than it is for an illegal to get here and find work..housing..government help..YOUR TAXES PAY FOR IT.

I ask each of you to please..Try and forget what MSM (main stream media) has been spoon feeding you all your life. I ask you to open your mind. See what they are hiding..in plain site at that. Ask..where are they getting all this money? Then I want you to go to:

www.DailyPaul.com

www.PrisonPlanet.com

www.InfoWars.com

www.VoteBaldwin08.com

And I ask that you Google or Youtube these items

New World Order

Who Owns The IRS

Ron Paul High Tide

FEMA Concentration Camps

Bilderberg Group

Also I ask you to join the Revolution and show Congress and the Senate your fed up just like the rest of us

VOTE THEM OUT..I dont care if the one running against them is Rep. and your Dem. the ones in office need to get a message..From local to federal government..a message MUST BE SENT..and it must be LOUD AND CLEAR...You must call Congress and the Senate..and everyone else in your state that works for government and you must tell them..Your watching them.

Incase you have forgotten..you are WE THE PEOPLE...And YOU ARE GOVERNMENT..the ones in office are just the mouth peices that do OUR TALKING FOR US...and they have forgotten that...Time to remind them.

Stay Safe

Stay Free

Save the Constitution

VOTE THE BASTARSS OUT

SPREAD THE MESSAGE

Except, I'm more of a Green so I will vote for Nader.  Nader stood up for us and called those doing the bailout what they truly are.   If not the Greens though, I would rather see the Libertarians win though over the party(oops I mean either party).

The Democrats are every bit as corporate criminal loving as the Republicans.  What have they done now that they are the majority party-they made is complicated to get free tv and passed a 700 billion dollar tax payer theft bill so that there friends in AIG can have vacations.  Wake up people!

Well at least you admit you have some responsibility in this.

Quote From: sfermanis

I  lost my job when this all started going south. Spent all of my savings just trying to live and like most people - took a loan w/ a low teaser rate that will adjust in Nov 09.   I became depressed, un-motivated and my credit score went from 710 to the 4-500 range. I cannot pay back debt that is owed and I owe my family over 15K plus back credit card debt of over 30K. If it wasnt for my family paying the mortgage payments I would be in foreclosure.  Im not blaming the Lending Institution because I was the one that signed the papers. Like most Americans I beleived that the housing would continue to rise and financially I would be in a better position in 5 years when it came time to adjust.  I am a single mother that is stuggling to survive. Im 42 yrs old w/ no marketable skills, no formal education and no job prospects. Its scary. I never thought I would be in this position.  I wonder every month how Im going to pay the bills.

But that is just the beginning and now you need to act.  If you have things in your home that are not absolute needs you need to sell them and pay back your family!

I have had times when I have been depressed and felt un-motivated too.  But I still stayed in control of my life and finances.

I didn't vote for Bush!

And as I stated before I am liberal.  I don't even have credit cards, I use public transportation, and I support liberal causes.

And there are plenty of other chooses Nader, Greens, Libertarians too name just a few.  BOTH, the Republicans and Democrats have failed us.   Third parties are the answer.   As I stated before more Democrats voted for the bailout bill than Republicans-as far as I am concerned they are both evil.  Is this a peoples party to you? Please describe to me three good things the Democrats have done for the people in the last three years?

Instead of blaming people based on who they voted for, why don't you blame the people who bought the houses they couldn't afford and charged everything in site which they also could  not afford.  Somehow I don't think it was Bush voters who forced them they had to sign up for interest only loans on homes they could not afford.   Plus don't forget the CEOs who gave themselves bonuses for running their companies into the ground and the wonderful Democrats support this.

Now if you want to go all the way back to FDR then you have a Democrat who is worth their while.  But todays Democrats are no FDR! It is time for a new parties to arise and take there places representing us instead of representing them.

Good for you for being debt free and being a responsible consumer.

However, the reason I say that we all caused this to some degree including myself, it because we did not stand up at all or stand up strongly enough before things came to a crisis and do what we needed to do to protect our rights, freedoms, and our financial securities.

I don't feel sorry for the once rich couple.

They showed this couple with a huge home where the wife never worked.  The husband lost his job, now they are in debt.  I don't feel sorry for them at all.  They were making a lot of money at one time.  So they bought this huge house, went on vacations, spent money with no though about the future. Now they are almost broke.  Well, you shouldn't have bought a huge house.  You shouldn't have taken so many vacations.  You should have saved for the future just in case something like this happened.

I am 39 years old.  I have NEVER taken a vacation.  When I take vacation time from my job, I stay at home.  I don't own a home, I rent an apartment.  That way I don't have to pay property taxes, home owner's insurance, pay for repairs like electric or plumbing, never have to worry about a second mortgage.

A couple making good money, like this couple was, now looking at living my life; struggling to pay bills, I have no sympathy.  Welcome to my world.  And for the husband who says he hasn't been able to find a job;  you are full of it!  You can't find a job that pays what you want.  There are jobs out there, they just don't pay what you want.  I have worked days at fast food and nights at a grocery store to support my family when that's what it took.  Be a man and take what job you can get for now.  Keep looking for what you want in the meantime.
