Topic : 06/19 Whatever Happened To …

I had a chance to see the show on Tuesday 12/2/08.  Dr. Phil gave an update on Kaylee since she hadn't seen her dad for 1 year.  Kaylees' grandmother said that Kaylee was in therapy and would be ok.  I am hear to tell you that Kaylee will be a very strong child as che gets older.  Also, when she hits her pre-teen years she will relive the experience all over again.  This is what has happened to my daughter who is now 15.  There is a long road ahead and Kaylee will need alot of understanding and love and at this point more therapy.  Also, look for signs of depression. 

The story with the little girl is just heartbreaking.  I hope she and her family can heal and move on now.

What was with that Shenek?  Does she have a mirror??  Not to be mean, but seriously, she really isn't all that great to be judging others.  I couldn't watch her for that long because her voice was like listening to fingernails on a chalkboard.  I think she just wants to get some airtime and attention.  Why are giving a person like this anything??  What is her point?  What does anyone care what ONE superficial no-brain narcissist has to say?  Dr. Phil went from one serious and heartwrenching story to that fluff head.  I don't get it... did anyone really care what happens to her??  I didn't remember her at all, nor do I give a rat's behind what happens to her. 

I work as a volunteer with children who have been sexually abused.  I also have dealings with the families.  It is FACTUAL that MANY mothers are AFRAID to report abuse, because they FEAR being accused of exactly what you have stated.  The child could have been "coached".  Did you ever see a school play?  These kids have been practicing for often weeks, and although we, as parents, think they are adorable, they are NOT convincing, do not sound anything but coached...and you think a two year old could be "trained" to say with the emotion showed by Kaylee, to fake child abuse? 

The child is in therapy...what more would you like the mother or the grandmother to do?  A TRAINED therapist, who has been on such a case, can pick up signs of "coaching"...and a child that young doesn't have the capacity to put that stuff together. 

No better off than when she was seeing him, IF the mother nd grandmother are as they appear?  Do they have kiddie porn on their computers?

This is the number 1 reason for not reporting...mothers will be blamed for parental ailienation, coaching, and if some judge, who has a backlog of cases determines that the MOTHER is lying, she can lose her child.  Really makes you want to run to the authorities.

So many victims are not believed.  More FEEL that they were not believed because it was not reported, and end up hating the mother.

Mothers get blamed for everything!  The accusations come from the CHILDREN...and a PARENT has the obligation to report a crime committed against a child.  When they do, this is what they face.  Can you really blame them for trying to handle it alone?  The sex abuse is terrible.  Often the way the laws work...or do NOT work, makes things 100 times worse.

It happened to my children.  I reported.  I'll never judge anyone again who decides not to do so.  We lacked proof, the word of the therapist was worth crap, I was put on trial before the arraignment, by HIS lawyer...and after 6 months of trying to get a plea bargain, it was dropped.  So he's free. 

I applaud the fact that Jeremy is in jail...although his daughter's word meant nothing...it was the evidence in the computer that finally caught him. 

Children for the most part, are VERY poor actors and actresses...did Kaylee attend acting class that we don't know about...at 2.  Even the Olsen twins couldn't be "coached" to say those things...and to cry like that?  Then, the accused is found to be in possesion of kiddie porn?  1+1=2

NEVER condemn those who fail to report...this mentality is not out of the range of what is to be expected. The laws are needy of an overhaul!

Thank the Goddess Jeremy was arrested after his wife turned over his computer to the police!  Hooray for the wife.  Unfortunately, though he was convicted for possession of child porn, his sentence was a mere 180 days in jail (and the home arrest upon his release from jail).  That isn't anywhere near enough time for him.  It is certainly a miscarriage of justice that he has yet to be charged for what he did to poor Kaylee.  There is physical evidence of abuse, she has stated "they touched my pee pee", and the child porn charges were filed first?  (and who is "they"?  certainly sounds like more than one offender).  If that were my baby I would parked on the DA's front porch until charges are filed.  This man needs to be put away for a very, very long time.

Unfortunately, I don't believe Kaylee is "over" this.  This is likely to rear its ugly head throughout her life.  She may well need further counseling down the road.  May God bless this dear child.

It is testament to a very large population and the attitude towards SEXPLOITING children.  We are giving this CRIME more press, there are more organizations to help victims through the ordeal, and these are positive things.

Reality in court...the Courts of Law and of Public opinion, are not reflective of anything these organizations are promoting...we are getting lip service!  Jeremy was convicted on possession of kiddie porn...and a poster states that he/she is of the opinion that 9 out of 10 people are of that ilk.  Add to that, that in spite of the mother filing reports to CPS, making the video, BRINGING IT TO NATIONAL T.V.  Jeremy faced NO CHARGES!  Really gives you a lot of faith in the mantra..tell, tell tell. 

I remember years back..before I had children, I received a Christmas card from an aquaintance in Florida.  It was a picture of Santa with a little girl on his lap, his hand up her dress asking what she'd like for Christmas..inside the card it said "HO HO HO".  I was in a state of shock..I showed my Mother, Father and anyone I knew this piece of crap...then threw it out and never spoke to that woman again.  Turns out she has three children...and THAT makes Me nervous. 

They sell this crap under some loophole...it was a sketch...no real child was used, hence no crime was comitted. 

Pedophilia is rampant because it is tolerated, it is seldom prosecuted...as we saw in Kaylee's case, on the testamony of a child alone.  I hope the possession charges, and his being in the registry strengthens the case, but do I have faith that it will?  Not really...a lawyer will dummy it down, the mother and grandmother will be put on trial...so, I'm not holding my breath.

Talk is cheap...and so far that is what the majority of victims are getting.  Justice is not easy, and with the mindset of some people...kiddie porn is not pedophilia, and the word of a child can be coached. 

Sorry to say, this case was the NORM...so how do we, as a whole, really view pedophilia?  THAT makes me MORE than nervous, beyond angry, and left to wonder if all if the sympathy for the victims we HEAR is just Politically Correct LIP SERVICE!  I have heard of SYMPATHY FOR THE DEVIL...I just have to question how many actually have this drive, or desire at some point in their lives, in varying degrees, so the sympathy does go to the devil.  I wish that there were more research into what this attraction to a child is about...something new and more believable.  I think it exists in multiple forms and is, or has been, in many, a thought, if not a deed.

If the sexual assault has occurred within 72 hours of a physical examination, forensic evidence collection should be conducted.  A complete physical examination, including careful documentation of any lacerations (a torn or jagged wounds), ecchymoses (skin discoloration caused by the escape of blood into the tissues from ruptured blood vessels) or petechiae (pinpoint size flat round red dots under the skin surface caused from hemorrage - bleeding into the skin), is critical. Physical examination of the oral cavity includes inspection of the hard and soft palate for bruising or petechiae, and inspection of the frenulum (the membrane that attaches the tongue to the floor of the mouth) for any lacerations that can result from forced oral penetration. 

Rape evidence collection kits are available in the emergency department of most hospitals. Evaluation of acute sexual assault may be conducted in an emergency department setting or, if available, at a children's advocacy center. In nonacute cases, the office of the family physician has the benefit of being a familiar location for the patient.  The physician should maintain a gentle and calm demeanor and be considerate of the apprehensive child. It is helpful to explain the examination beforehand to the patient and caretaker.

Medical problems include anogential (anal) trauma, bleeding, irritation or discharge, dysuria (painful or difficult urination), frequent urinary tract infections, encopresis (repeated passing of feces into places other than the toilet), enuresis (repeated passing of urine into places other than the toilet), pregnancy, diagnosis of a sexually transmitted disease (STD) and oral trauma. 

Children may present with somatic (muscles and nerves) complaints such as recurrent agdominal pain or frequent headaches resulting from the psychologic stress.  Sexual acting-out behavior is the most specific indicator of possible sexual abuse.

Child sexual abuse generally refers to sexual acts, sexually motivated behaviors, or sexual exploitation involving children. Child sexual abuse includes a wide range of behaviors, such as: 

• Oral, anal, or genital penile penetration
• Anal or genital digital or other penetration
• Genital contact with no intrusion
• Fondling of a child's breasts or buttocks
• Indecent exposure
• Inadequate or inappropriate supervision of a child's voluntary sexual activities
• Use of a child in prostitution, pornography, Internet crimes, or other sexually exploitative activities

Sexual abuse includes both touching offenses (fondling or sexual intercourse) and nontouching offenses (exposing a child to pornographic materials) and can involve varying degrees of violence and emotional trauma.  

The most commonly reported cases involve incest, or sexual abuse occurring among family members, including those in biological families, adoptive families, and stepfamilies. Incest most often occurs within a father-daughter relationship.  

Mother-son, father-son, and sibling-sibling incest also occurs. Sexual abuse is also sometimes committed by other relatives or caretakers.  In fifty percent of reported child sexual abuse within families the perpetrator was an older sibling.

Consider the possibility of sexual abuse when the child: 

• Has difficulty walking or sitting
• Suddenly refuses to change for gym or to participate in physical activities
• Reports nightmares or bedwetting
• Experiences a sudden change in appetite
• Demonstrates bizarre, sophisticated, or unusual sexual knowledge or behavior
• Becomes pregnant or contracts a venereal disease, particularly if under age 14
• Runs away
• Reports sexual abuse by a parent or another adult caregiver

Consider the possibility of sexual abuse when the parent or other adult caregiver: 

• Is unduly protective of the child or severely limits the child's contact with other children, especially of the opposite sex
• Is secretive and isolated
• Is jealous or controlling with family members 

The presence of a single sign does not prove child abuse is occurring in a family; however, when these signs appear repeatedly or in combination you should take a closer look at the situation and consider the possibility of child sexual abuse.

I always see the message about reporting within 72 hours.  It SHOULD help, but look at the situation with Kaylee.  The child is hysterical, she is crying that "they touched my pee pee" she had a torn labia...and the law did....what was it they did?  Oh, I remember...N.O.T.H.I.N.G.!

Also, many children do not tell until years later, making the report impossible to do in the 72 hour time frame. 

Sometimes the best you CAN do is help your child to heal...get  the victim into good councilling with a therapist who specializes in sex abuse, and work to heal the family.  It effects everyone, and anyone who says differently is not being honest. 

Children like Kaylee ought to be better protected by the law.  Her Mother and Grandmother were zealous in their efforts...and it got them....?

If not for that computer, Jeremy would be seeing Kaylee, as nothing was done to keep him away.  The law failed.  Actually, the law seemed to be more suspicious of the women who were reporting.  Wonder what effect the show actually had on someone who was thinking of reporting?  What we saw was NOT the ideology, it was the REALITY...so you question why some choose not to report? 

In N.Y. a woman was told by her sons, 3 and 5 that "DADDY watched these movies with us, and "scratched" himself until he peed.  She immediately took the children to therapy, and according to his report, the boys were watching porn with their father, and he was masturbating.  Since the couple were separated, the father got supervised visits for a year...no registry, just supervised...for a year, then it went to unsupervised.  He then launched an all out attack on the MOTHER...accused her of parental ailienation, the boys were taken FROM HER.. Brought to HIS mother's home where he was living....and after being with him, they started to alter the account, and HE has custody, while she only has visitation.  One boy, now in his early teens, was arrested for indecent exposure, while the younger boy is failing in school and full of rage.  Dad had been a teacher, but he was fired...in N.Y. it is almost impossible to fire a tenured teacher...but he did not fight them, so he has UNSATISFACTORY PERFORMANCE as reason for his termination.  Now he is a nude model, but he has the boys.  She ran out of money, and these kids are so messed up, I doubt they will have a positive outcome.

BUT HE NEVER ABUSED THEM...SHE MADE THIS UP.  Makes you really want to run and file that report.

I WISH that Dr. Phil would have a show featuring some of us...who VOLUNTEER to help abused children, and KNOW the workings of the system in 90% of the cases.

The Bridget Marx case was not uncommon in our City...she had the money, and the profile to go public and regain her girls.  Not everyone is that lucky.
