Dr Phil,
I had a twin sister who got killed on 9/11 at the World Trade Center, and even though I live in Tennessee and she lived in NY we were very close, we talked on the average 10 times a day 7 days a week. Neither of us ever married and we were each others best friends. My parents brought us up not to compete against each other, we had a loving relationship. Our dream was to grow old together but the terrorist took that dream away from us. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about and miss my twin sister. 9/11 tore us apart, half of me is gone, I feel like I have a big hole in my heart.

Your show on twins was excellent. I have a twin sister, she is not identical as a matter of fact, we are not at all alike. She seems to be very jealous of me. I'm not sure what sparked this jealousy but It sure would be nice if she would watch some of these shows. Maybe she would get a hint to what is going on. Thanks for airing it, It certainly enlightened me.

Wow! I know what you are talking about. Just a week ago, my twin (fraternal) and I got in a huge fight and now are not speaking to one another. To be honest, the fight was petty; however, she vented so much anger about other issues, that I was left wondering whether it was more. In the past, she has accused me of competing with her and told me that at the end she will do better than me. I was SHOCKED at her comments and have never forgotten them. I never felt that I needed to compete with her and was terribly hurt by her words. Her words only exposed her real resentment. I'm am not a perfect person and know that I have faults, but I have never felt that I needed to measure myself to my twin. She was my best friend, my right arm, everything. Now she refuses to talk to me and I've tried. I've met her halfway, but with no response. I used to be very happy, but now part of me is miserable, my light has died.

I read your response and it sounds so similar to the situation I have with my twin. She is very angry with me and has chosen to 'ignore' me. She has a great relationship with our older sister -calls her all the time, shares gifts and such. I have tried for 30 years to 'get her to like me' but no such luck. Her rejection has caused me great pain but I am learning to live with it, especially since I really have no other choice. There is so much more to our story.... I wish you well with your twin.

My sister and I are 51 years old. We are identical and I could relate to a lot of the stories. I used to call her 10 times a day. I couldn't do anything without her input (that was just a year ago!). We never fought growing up until a boyfriend came into the picture. That seems to be common and kids are now an issue. I had mine at 18 and she started at 36. We are fighting now because I slipped in my recovery and she doesn't want to talk to me (my Mom doesn't either). I always joked that I was the evil twin and she was the good one. All these jokes and comparisons do cause problems. I have always been thinner. Instead of asking the thinner twin if she is embarrassed by her sister's weight, I thought you should have asked if the heavier one was jealous of her sister? Just my thought. I do get psychic dreams about her, but she doesn't. I have read that is something twins can tune in on. I was in an auto accident in 1978 and am paralyzed. This year is the first time in my life I have ever lived alone. I had my sister, husband, kids, another husband, now just me. It is scary being totally alone. I love your shows and as one of the other messages said, I wish my sister would listen to you and read your books. Without your book "Self Matters", I don't know if I would be alive right now.

My sister and I are 44 years old. My identical twin sister and I have argued off and on since we were 16 years old. She is always getting angry with me over, what I think are, little things that happen in life. We go years without talking. In the past it was always me who made the first communication after an argument. Now that I am older I am tired of taking the blame and apologizing. She has managed this time to turn the whole family against me and has made me out to be a horrible person. The last 6 years I have been dealing with serious medical problems. I do not have any family support or support from friends. My husband doesn't realize the extent of my problems and is not an emotional reliable support. I so understand how you feel. I would give anything to be able to have my twin sister's support. I realize now that we will always have issues and she will alway find an issue to be mad about with me. It is scarey being totally alone. I often wonder if my sister listens to Dr. Phil or reads his books.

I know how the twins felt. I am an Identical twin. We have faught through childhood and we are (cough, cough) 30?. We live 250 apart and don't see each other very much and we still fight. We fight with each other but we wouldn't let nobody do it to us. We also have an older sister that we both fought with growing up and now we all get along together. It is just us twins. I think it has more to do with having to share everything. I hated being called a twin and I still do. I love my sister and I wouldn't change being a twin. Our relationship got better when I moved 3 states away from her.

Permit me...a question and two recommendations...When you bicker, ask yourself what are you defending? And as long as, (whichever the one is), persists in labeling herself the "evil" twin, you can bet you'll keep acting that out. I highly doubt that's what you want. It's a self-fulfilling philosophy. Consider something enlightening also, that you're actually a mirror of each other. Love & peace, Donny

This pair seemed to be on the show for the exposure, to see if it could help their modeling careers. Both had obvious boob jobs and professionally done hair and makeup. They acted 16 instead of 24. It just didn't ring true for me.

Dr. Phil you are right when you say twins treat other people better. It is because twins know or feel the other twin will always be there. My twin and I were very close and clinged to each other as we were in an orphanish. She is the only person who knew everythough and feeling I had. You never tell everything to others but will tell your twin everything. There is always much love but much competition.
My twin was the dreamer and I was the reality person. As we grew and married we talk to each other daily on the phone long distance. Our husbands never complained as they knew how important it was for us.
My twin died 2 years ago of cancer at the age of 50. I feel so alone and lost. Sometimes I feel I should be dead also as I have never been alone before. I am married and have children and her grandchild call me aunt grandma. I know I need to also be there for her kids as well as mine.

My Grandmother had a huge family. She had 10 Brothers and Sisters. 2 Sets of Twins in the Bunch. Well the Girl Twins always been joined at the hip. They even lived in neighboring states and they still called each other everyday to discuss what to wear. When they bought outfits they bought Identical for the other. They wore identical clothes EVERYDAY! One of the husbands died and the Other Twin and her Husband moved in with her. They look alike, do their hair alike. They are well in their 70s-80s. I dont visit them much anymore Like I used to, since I now have my own family. But I dont know what they would do if they lost each other.

I am 58 years old and have an identical twin sister. I have always enjoyed having her as my twin. We are very close and do so much together. The past 13 years I have been alone and my twin is right there, even when I called her at 3:00am and said that I needed to go to the hospital. My life has been so blessed to have my twin sister as my best friend.

I am 20 years old and I have an identical twin sister. Though we live 500 miles apart , we watched the show together and commented during commercials. We could totally relate to the show because we fought like cats and dogs growing up, we talk at least five times a day, and we even went through a period where she weighed alot more than I did. It is clear that twins in general deal with alot of the same issues, but we have learned that maturity has alot to do with it. We are much older now and we realize that time is much too precious to waste arguing and fighting. Our relationship is much better now that we live in different cities.

I am the mother of 10 year old identical twin girls. I grew up with 2 older brothers and feel my daughter (who have an older brother) have got to be the luckiest girls in the world to have each other. One of them just wrote a story on the advantages and disadvantages of being a twin. The biggest disadvantage was being called the wrong name. I have always told all my children that they should treat each other with the utmost respect and kindness, as their relationship will withstand many others. I was pleased to hear you say what I have always told my kids....that many people will come and go in their lives, and they should always cherish their relationship which will last forever. So far, my twins get along well (they of course fight sometimes!). They each have their own rooms, but choose to share a room. Their competitiveness has probably brought the bar up for both of them.
What a blessing they are! I was SO saddened at the terrible way some twins can treat each other, and hope mine will never "go there" and that the twins shown on the show will re-evaluate their relationships.

We could have had our own rooms and we chose to room together. We said we didn't want to lose half of our belongings. We even roomed together in college. We are now about 80 miles apart from eachother, but you would think we were next door neighbors the way we keep in touch.
