Dear Dr. Phil and Robin:
I, too, couldn't make it through the show today without tears running down my face!! Robin, I totally understand what it is like to be so filled with joy and happiness that the tears just flow!! There was a time in my life that laughter or tears couldn't come out! But I'm so thankful that my life has become one of thankfulness and joy! I'm not embarrassed by my tears and my husband just smiles and holds me. He is a gentle man just like Dr. Phil who understands those tears!!
As a teacher of primary students for the past 34 years, I know the joy of watching the magic appear for our little ones. Thank you for using the gifts that God has given to you both for making such a special time in all these children's lives!! You two are a very blessing not only for them but also an inspiration to all of us!! We may not be able to do all that you do, but everyone has the capacity to make a child smile! God bless you both!! Happy Holidays!! Jan

Dear Dr. Phil and Robin,
My roommate and I just got finished watching your Christmas party show and let me tell you how great that is! I have for years seen people taking care of military families and it never touched me as much as it has this year since my husband and I got married last January 1st and he is in the Army. Now that I know first hand how hard it is to be a military wife things are so much different. Let me put things in a little more of a perspective for you. My husband and I met while he was stationed in North Carolina and I was living in San Diego. As he is from San Diego he was only able to come home for holidays. So we saw each other in September of last year for about 2 weeks, then he came home for Christmas and we spent about 2 months together we got married while he was home then left on January 18th to be stationed in Hawaii. We decided that I would move there also, but I wasn’t able to move out here until March 23rd and then my husband got deployed on April 28th to be gone a year to Afghanistan.
With that said seeing as how this is a new marriage for us and we only got to spend about a month together as husband and wife this holiday season is going to be one of the hardest things I have every gone through. Let’s see I have Christmas and my birthday is the same day, then New Years which is also our first anniversary. The first thing that comes to mind when I think about that is a dark room and lots of sleeping!
Seeing the love that you have shown and concern for the military families and their loved ones touches me to no end. Unfortunately I have a small problem. With the holidays coming and a lot of people doing all kinds of things for the soldiers it’s all over television about how the soldiers in Iraq are being helped and missed and supported. My question is… WHAT ABOUT AFGHANISTAN!?!?!? Through the whole show I just watched not once was Afghanistan mentioned. I know that all over television when people say that they support the soldiers they mean all of them, but it would just be nice to see once in a while someone mention Afghanistan. I know that things aren’t as bad as Iraq, but the fact of the matter is men are getting killed there also, I'm still scared every minute of every day, I still cry at the drop of a hat, and I wake up everyday hoping that I can get through another day. I know that everyone knows about Afghanistan it’s just that sometimes I feel like we are forgotten.
I thank you again for supporting us the way you do! You have no idea how important it is to feel supported the way you support our men! So in future I want to hear something about Afghanistan! Sound good?
Thank you,
Carrie

Carrie,
It sounds like you have a tough holiday season facing you. I'm so proud of you for standing firm and being one of the outstanding army spouses who support their soldiers! Have you looked into your units Family Readiness Group? If it isn't activated, maybe you could get one going? Another option is to go to the post resources. There are tons of them out there. Check out ACS... there is always something to do thru them. Not to mention volunteering. You don't mention if you work or not, but if not volunteering will make a huge difference in your waiting time! Trust me! Been there, done that... got the t shirt and the mug!! lol Just get involved in the post somehow in a positive way. There are also tons of websites to help you out and ACS( Army Comunity Services) can help you out with that too. Have as happy a Holiday as you can! And thanks again for being a supportive wife!

Carrie, hi! I understand your pain! Last year my husband spent 15 months of a 12 month deployment in Iraq. We didn't find out until 2 weeks before they were due home that they were extending. Nice huh? Anyways, they do miss a lot while deployed..mine left on mother's day, missed his birthday and mine, Christmas and New Years Eve (also our anniversary), our daughter's birthday, mother's day, and in total, a year out of the life of his family. But then they come home, and life is good again. Just keep praying!

Dear Carrie,I just read your story. You are very correct in stating that when we say we are supporting our deployed troops,we do mean all of them, and unfortunately yes,Irag seems to get all the attention.I don't have a spouse in the military, but I feel for you having to be apart from yours, especially at this time of year. Please take comfort that there are many of us out here, who care about all areas where our troops are deployed. And that the families they have left behind as they serve our country, are always thought of with pride in my eyes, just as I feel the families left behind are just as bit courageous.May peace be with you during this difficult time, and may your husband soon be back home with you.

Carrie,
I understand what you mean. My husband is also currently deployed with the US Navy. No he is not in Afghanistan or Iraq, but he is till away. No matter where they are it is hard. In my case my husband will miss the birth of our first child, Christmas, our 8th anniversery, his birthday, and my birthday. I have no family close by, and the baby is due anyday so travle is out of the question. For me Christmas is litteraly all alone. So yes it will be hard. But it is part of being a military wife.
Just remember, most people who say thank you to our military familes mean all of them, not just the ones in Iraq.

It was heartwarming to see Dr. Phil and Robin spread Christmas joy to military families. I agree there are families all over, in Afghanistan and elsewhere who could also use our support and I wish for the safe return of all military men and women. One thing saddened me deeply upon watching the beautifulshow, however... A guest or two that the producers chose to showcase talked about how service people were "fighting for our freedom" in Iraq -- that was not the place to dwell on the 100,000 Iraqi civilians or more plus thousands of Iraqi men killed by the U.S. invasion under false pretences, however that beautiful Christmas festivity was also not the appropriate place to spread pro-war propoganda. Come on, Dr. Phil... you are a highly educated man that I and millions of others look to for your compassionate guidance... Don't you know that Iraq has the world's second largest oil reserves (is that a coincidence)? And the pain, devastation and death that war causes for civilians? I hope that being the compassionate person you are you will consider spreading that compassion to non-Americans also...isn't that what Christmas is about...love for all mankind and peace on Earth? Yes, let's support our troops by finding out the truth and bringing them home safely. Do you really believe killing thousands of innocents and invading a country, against international laws and under false pretenses, is just, justifiable, and in the Christmas spirit? Wishing everyone peace, light and love. God bless America and Iraq.

Dear Dr. Phil & Robin,
Just a little note to say thank you, for your reorganization of the military families who are separated from their loved ones this Holiday. I watched your show today and could not stop crying thinking about the children who are missing their parent’s. I am a spouse of a solider who is stationed in Iraq, my husband Sgt. Joseph A. Rutledge has been over in country since January 22, 2004. I feel for the other mothers and fathers who don’t know what to say to their children about when the absent parent will return. It has been a very long and hard year for my family, right after my husband was deployed we lost the baby I was carrying and then shortly after both his grandmother and mine died, so this has been a very trying year for us. Now Christmas is here and yet another holiday we will be apart. I’ am sending our children to our family to celebrate because I just can’t bring myself to tell them Christmas won’t happen until daddy comes home. At this point we are counting down the days for his return and I thank GOD each day that he has watched over our soldiers with C co 84th ENG BN. So Thank you both very much for the greatness that you have given these children it was such a beautiful gift. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.. I love your show and tape it everyday to watch once i get done with my classes...PS I am a full time Mommy/Daddy and college student. Your are a inspiration.

You truly are the spirit of Christmas. It seems that people have forgotten what Christmas is all about. But you have brought it back by your generousity to our armed forces and their families by doing what you both have done for them. We never miss your show's. My husband has a saying," Is this what what Dr. Phil would say or do". We just love your show and You and Robin are what married couples should base their marriages on. You can see the love and consideration you have for each other in just the way you look at each other. God bless you both, and may god bless you as you have blessed others with your knowledge and caring hearts.

Thank you Dr Phil and Robin for thinking of our heroes when most of the country has moved on and forgotten about them, or have completely forgotten why they are there. Our Marines and soldiers are protecting our freedom and the freedom of others who cannot defend themselves. My husband is also in Iraq, and my children (3 & 4 1/2) are missing him terribly. He has been gone since July, but has been in Iraq, Kuwait and living away from home on base for almost 3 years. Although we are doing well and are used to him being gone, having him away for Thanksgiving, Christmas, his kids' birthdays, his birthday, and practically every important moment and milestone is really tough on the family. Thank you for making this difficult time so much easier for the families of the Marine's that were invited to your party and to the studio audience.

Dr Phil's show today was amazing..Too often we see people who have become extremely successful and famous but are on the selfish side. It was an incredible display of giving both of finance, time, and generosity. Dr Phil continues to show his audience what an amazing person he and his family have, a wonderful heart and a caring spirit. The messages from our soldiers serving in Iraq to their families was emotional and shows that we should continue to support our troops for the job they do. I wish all the families of military veterans a joyous holiday season!!

Dr. Phil, Robin, Family & Helpers:
Beautiful, Beautiful, Beautiful. I am almost speechless as this was Spectacular!!!!
I just wanted to say that your show today was the best show I have seen in a long time and is something I would have liked to have done for the military or sick children. I have been really depressed lately as I lost both my father and mother in-law and my job in just a few months. I have always enjoyed Christmas and sharing it with everyone. We always try to set aside a little to buy items for the Hospital old and young every year. This show brought me out of some of that Depression as it made me cry, light up and be happy for all of them. It was the best Christmas presant to myself to see everyone so happy. Thank you for doing so much for everyone. I truely believe this comes from your heart as is does mine. Thank you so much for making Christmas special for everyone. I was so excited to see how truely happy it made the children and the spouses to be able to hear there voices and listen to there messages. I can't even imagine what it would be like to have a loved one so far away. Thank you for being such special people. Merry Christmas.

I haven't cryed so much in my whole life as I did while I watched Dr. Phil today.
Dr. Phil and Robin you are both awesome. I watch Dr.Phil everyday. My Daughter, who just started school this year cryed when she started school because she would,"miss Dr. Phil". She used to watch most shows with me, unless it was inappropriate for her.
But I just wanted to send my gratitude to you both for a wonderful show and for being such wonderful roll models for us all! Thank you.. Missy in Maine

IT SURE WAS A GRAND PARTY, BRAVO FOR PUTING A BAND-AID ON A HUGE WOUND. THE FACT IS I HAVE READ SEVERAL OF THESE MESSAGES ON THESE BOARDS AND AS A DEPENDENT WIFE I FIND IT HARD TO READ WHAT SOME OF THESE PEOPLE WRITE. THE WOMAN THAT WROTE ABOUT WHAT THE MOTHER SAID ON THE SHOW “NEVER GETTING A THANK YOU” THERE WAS NEVER A TRUER STATEMENT. AS FAR AS THE MILATARY IS CONCERND WE AS WIFES ARE OFTEN REMINDED BY THE MILATARY CHAIN OF COMMAND THAT THE TRUE GOALS OF THE NAVY ARE “SHIP, SHIPMATE, SELF”. NOW TRY BASING YOUR FAMILY VALUES AROUND THAT.
SO TO THE LADY WHO SAID SHE WAS HURT BY THE STATEMENT THAT SHE NEVER GETS A THANK YOU, DO YOU THINK THAT BUY SENDING A CARE PACKAGE OF TOOTHPASTE AND TOOTH BRUSHES QUALIFIES YOU AS A TRULY CARING PERSON, NOT SO! IF THE AMERICAN PUBLIC REALLY CARED THEY WOULD BE MARCHING IN D.C. FOR MORE PAY AND BETTER CONDITIONS FOR OUR MILITARY PERSONEL AND THEIR FAMILIES. EVERY AMERICAN WILL EXPECT THAT OUR SOLDIERS, AIRMAN AND SEAMAN GIVE THEIR LIFES FOR THEM WHEN THE TIME COMES. AND TO YOU DR PHIL THIS IS THE BIGGEST SIDESTEP TO AN ISSUE THAT I HAVE EVER SEEN YOU DO. GET REAL!

WOW! I can't imagine your reaction to such a heartwarming gesture from Dr.Phil and Robin. They gave a great christmas gift to some of the families of our brave men and women.I just can't imagine why Slam Dr.Phil? He and Robin are just trying to ease the pain for some families. I feel sorry for you that you are so angry. My husband is a disabled Vet and still loves our country and the military and wouldn't trade his time in the Army for anything, even though he is in pain everyday from his injuries.
I think you are the one who needs to get real!

Lady Daley,
As a military wife you know first hand the shortcomings of your husband's service. However I disagree with your statement about side stepping. This show actually put into the minds of "civillian" America that no matter what their political opinion is, REAL people are sacraficing and doing without. REAL children are facing fears and anxities that children as a rule do not face. These REAL people could be their neighbor, their co worker - so the issues of being the loved one left behind are being seen and thought about for the first time by so many.
I am not a military spouse (which I think is the hardest job in the military) I am a Marine Corps Mom. I have come to know many of the issues you face through meeting other wonderful women in your situation and commend you all. And yes changes need to be made and the wheels of bureaucracy turn slowly and grudgingly. But with some unity they do turn. There are so many avenues available to raise awareness and begin changes - my advice is use them!!! Once again in my opinion this show did raise awareness in a way that did not upset civillian sensibilities - but did get millions thinking!!!
I thank your husband for his service, I am so proud of him and I thank YOU for enduring the hundreds of everyday roadblocks that you must go through or around.
