Victums of pedaphiles can & do survive but that person's life can be a living hell, I speak from experience as a victum, more than once! I honestly don't know of any victum who hasn't had a difficult time afterwards but as for myself I would say that the most important thing a victum needs is all around support & empathy until they can carry themselves, no matter how long it takes. I know because I certainly didn't get enough which led to most of my 42yrs being the most difficult thing to endure. Being victumized DOES lead to more but with help, one can learn how not to be a victum any longer.

My son too was adoped at 7 and a half. We had the same kind of thing happen to us. I was working at a parks and rec dept.,i couldn't get a babysitter at the time so i told my son to just play at the park where i was working and i'd be there if he wanted or needed me. to my surprise i went to check on him and there was a man talking to him. i yelled at the man and told my son then 8 not to go near that man. again an hour later i saw my son and this man talking,i took my son home. i needed this job,but relized my son couldn't or wouldn't say no to this guy. My son always went for instant gradification. Unfortantlenty he lived a horiable little childhood before comming to us. HE always hated women and arthoty,i thought love would conquer that but he is 31 now and still a drug addict. we had him and us in thearphy but he played the thearpist well. i knew he had emotional and syclogial problems,he was tested to be manic at 14 yrs old. He went off his meds. i feel very bad,we weren't equipt to handle his problems. i know the spelling is terriable but i need to tell richard please get that boy and you in thearphy, mostley, the thearphy that takes him back to babyhood and brings him forward to the presant, i forget the thearphy's name, but that's what my son needed and we didn't have the money then. Please Richard my son too went to anyone and i see the same pattern here.

How does this sad story relate to pedophile stalking/social engeneering online?

Isn't Richard Hatch the homosexual guy who used his naked body on national TV as a strategy to win money on Survivor? Doctor Phil has often stated that the same sex parent has the strongest level of influence on a child. The boy seems very precocious and from a difficult past. How high is the probability that this boy would seek to express love in a physical relationship with a man? Wasn't he easy prey?
I do admire Richard for taking on the challenge of raising a troubled child. I think our culture should place more emphasis on character development, friendship, and expressing love through non-sexual context. I think Dr. Paul Tripp's "How to Really Love Your Child" is a great place to start.

Yes, Richard Hatch was the gay man who pranced around naked in front of people on Survivor. Are we honestly supposed to take this man seriously? He has his own perverted issues. He exposed himself to others with no regard for their feelings. What's his kid supposed to think? My god he probably thinks it's ok for grown men to be perverted in front of others if his own father goes around exposing HIMself. Don't we learn by example? Look at the example this poor kid has at home? I'm not surprised at all that Richard Hatch's son is in this position. His biological parents were deadbeats, now he's got an adopted father who exposes himself to others with no regard for their feelings.

Why are you so obsessed with that episode of the show??? I mean, seriously. Get over it. It's a fricken show. Perhaps you need to take a chill pill. Anyway, you need to walk a mile in his shoes before you judge.
I agree

Yes Richard may be gay but as you said we shall not Judge people that we have never meet in life. We tend to go by what we see and that isn't good most of the time. At least Richard is getting help for his son and I think for him self as since last Wednesday's show. Do we know what Richard is doing? No, we don't.
We are also suppose to forgive thy enemies.

Asi watched Dr Phil talk to Richard about his son I could not believe he left out some important details. This child has seen his mom's sexual life exposed in front of him. All male interaction was sexual. Then he is adopted by a gay man and lives in a home where two guys --have sex. What Dr Phil did not mention about Richards behavior was, Chris sees his dad sleep with a man, watched him on a national tv show exposing himself and the incident with susan hawk that was so disturbing she left the show. This kid is doing what his dad is doing. I think its wrong for a sexually abused boy to be adopted by a gay man. This just doesnt make sense to a child.

You seem to forget that this child was in a very dysfunctional family before he was ever adopted by Richard Hatch. Thank goodness for people like Richard who are willing to take a troubled child into his home and love him unconditionally. Yes, he is Gay but does that make him a BAD person?? Would it be better for him to live his years in Foster Homes?? Yes, he did run naked on Survivor but gee, wasn't it on a reality show to win a million? I don't think he does that now out in public so obviously it was for the show. This boy is troubled and needs the guidance of a father who loves him and is willing to do anything to protect him. Keep up the good work Richard! You showed much love and genuine concern for your son.

The fact that Richard is gay has NOTHING to do with his son's problems. The simple fact that Dr Phil didn't mention it should have been clue enough for you: It's a non issue there! The boy had a complicated chilhood long before Hatch. Even if you didn't know that homosexuality (between two adults) is a totaly different thing than pedophily, even if you didn't know that most gay men are raised by straigth parents, even if you're a biggot, you should have guessed that Dr Phil not making it an issue AT ALL was an important fact.
Richard is gay (that means having sex with a man) and showed a little nudity among adults. BIG DEAL!
He's the ONLY parent this kid ever had and you could see how concerned he was for his kid and how protective of him he is. But i guess for you Chris would have been better of in the foster system, waiting for a straigth couple to adopt a damage, complicated and probably gay teen ager. We all know the demands were probably piling up! (irony) :-)
Instead, here is Richard a intelligent, loving, involved, dedicated and yes GAY man who seem to be really fighting for this intelligent kid. He IS way better off...
GET A CLUE!

We don't know that Richard Hatch is doing the in front of his son. Do we? NO Beside I think Dr. Phil would have mentuioned that if it was going on. Dr. Phil tells you up front how it is.

I totally agree. I have a 14 year old daughter. She would be devastated if I acted like that on national tv. (survivor show)
When you are a parent, you have responsiblities. You must use your best judgement, and he did not. I don't know why he is acting like he is so shocked his son is having problems.
Yes, I feel sorry for the kid, he has had a tough road. Richard needs to step up and take responsibility for his actions. He has not been a good role model for this young boy.

Not Judgment Call

Certain behavior is inappropriate as a parent. Kids watch every move their parents make. It may not have been a good idea to make a naked spectical of himself of TV (didn't watch Survivor) when he knew his dysfunctional son was watching his role model father.
It's not a judgment call when people criticize this. It is a statement as to what is appropriate and what is not for a parent.
The fact that he is gay is irrelevant. I'm sure he doesn't have sex (with anyone) in front of his son. He's gay, not sick in the head.
The pedophile is, however, sick in the head.
This young boy is fortunate that this man has adopted him and loves him and the boy WILL benefit tremendously from this; because he now has a family and he is loved. This boy seems bright enough to know this also. They are both richer for having each other in their lives.

Perhaps, it's worth pointing out that "Survivor" is a TV show. Even though it is called a reality show it bears little or no resemblance to real life. To make assumptions about Mr. Hatch by his performance on a TV show makes about as much sense as assuming that Anthony Hopkins is a cannibal because he played one in the movies.
