Hi, my name is Susie and
I would love the support of Dr.Phil and his staff for my weight loss challenge! I am trying, but have difficulties staying on task. I weigh 230, 5'5" 48 yrs. I have started this week walking for atleast 15 minutes daily. Next week I hope to increase it. I did not want to wait until the "new year" to start my personal challenge. I love the "Staying Alive in 2005". My husband is concerned about my health due to my weight as he had a heart attack 3 years ago and says he does not want me to have to endure that horrible experience. I would love to have the chance to take a challengers place on this weight challenge adventure! Thank you Dr. Phil for all you do. You make a difference in lives daily. That is great.

Hi. I would like the support of Dr. Phil, his staff and anyone who is going through the same challenges. I am the 39 yr old mother of four ages 7-19. I work full time (night shift). I started out at 291 lbs and have lost to 213 but have slowly started regaining til I weighed 242 on 12/31/04. I exercise most weeks but have taken a couple off recently and can really tell it. I know that I can achieve my weight loss goals, but need some encouragement and an occasional kick in the butt to get me going.
So far my weight hasn't affected my health but I know that it will eventually. Thanks in advance for your help.

I also lost weight last year using the 7 keys. I went from 211 to 184.5 and then slowly went back to my old habits. I started 2005 at 216 lbs and am determined to change my ways this year once and for all. I'm 48 years old and want to be fit and healthy for the rest of my life. I'm very lucky in that my husband has the same weight issues and we're doing "Dr. Phil" together - eating healthy and exercising. If you did it once, you can do it again.....hang in there and don't give up! We're here for you! I got some new exercise tapes (Walk Away the Pounds) and they are easy and fun and I look forward to doing them. When you don't feel like working out, think of me doing my work out and get off the couch!

I am 48 years old, weigh 194 and have lost a ton over my lifetime. I have four sizes of clothes in my closet. I had my daughter go in and throw away the size 16 after I lost weight the last time and now I am scrounging around for something to wear as I have ate my way back up into size 16. My husband and two two adult children have started out the new year with a resolve to get into shape. My son will get married on our 25th wedding anniversary, December 22, 2005 and we all want to be in shape. I have just moved to a new state and have not developed any relationships here yet, so I need to find a support system. I an determined to do it.

I too was a size 16 and lost it and then regained it. I am 38 and just feel icky, tired and not motivated. My husband is grossly over weight also. We have both lost and gain our weight back. Some of my triggers is eating at night. And I like food, new tastes. Though through my previous weight loss I have maintain some of the good habits. Looking at menues and making sure they are balance. One of my biggest problems right now is that when I start exercising I get injured. When I start walking my shins HURT for days. I have a real nice exercise bike.. my right knee just pops and pops.. I know if I lose some weight I can walk. I have a daily stretch and strength. Sitting on the floor moving muscles and holding the position. I have 3 pound weights that I use. It doesnt take long but it is a start. And I am happy that I have started. The big thing is that I hope that I dont let myself get to worked up about gaining the weight back.

I dont know if I helped you.. But just typing my story has me going to go pick up my weights. :-)

I had to resort to wearing my husbands jeans due to also ridding my closet of size 16, per Dr. Phil's advice last year, which was good advice, I think. I have no idea what size I wear, I know it is not a size 14 or below. I tried on a size 12 this morning and to my disgust, they would not go over my thighs, nor, the size 14, which made it worse....I did, however, wear them over the summer, so I know it is possible to wear a size 12 (a little snug, but they went over the thighs, and buttoned too). Goal is a single digit by June. I weigh 160, was 213 after twin boys....three years ago, I should be at my goal weight by now, but I have lost and gained like an old roller coaster, darn those bad habits....I really need to stick with it this time, I am not getting any younger or prettier!!

I have been exercising with the tape, walk away the pounds, I do like it, but, is it enough later on....probably not, but I need to stick with something in home, I have a treadmill...so boring, it is.

Wishing you all the best of luck.

walking on the treadmill can be boaring, ButI go to the library and get books on tape, youll be surprized how fast you can run to the treadmill to get on with your book.

I know your story, I did away with all my clothes that were too big and I am wearing tight clothes right now. I am 53 and I can tell you, the older you get the harder it is to lose weight. I am looking for a good support system to keep me going. I am a size 16 also and hating it.

You are so right...the older you get the harder it is to lose weight. I am dedicated and commited to losing 30 lbs but it has been a struggle.

Had to comment on this. I remember when I was in my teens, and my sister (10yrs older) and mom were telling me that I should work on losing weight when I am younger because it's easier than when older. My opinion is that is a bunch of hooey. It's hard to lose weight no matter what. My sister was 25ish at the time. She wasn't old by any means.

Today we are twenty years older and still overweight. Yes, our metabolisms go down with age, but we can rev it back up again.

I turned 40 in 2004 and I know the last 5 years have been a struggle to keep my weight under control. I gained 10 lbs since Thangsgiving, 5 of it on Thanksgiving day. I have at least 45 lbs to lose and pray I can see some progress in the near future. I have 5 children and was hoping I could blame my weight on them until the babies graduate, ha! ha! but the discomfort I feel squeezing into too tight clothes and getting around has got to change. I hope I'm up to this weight loss challenge.

I turned 40 in 2004, also. I wanted to lose 30lbs before me and my girlfriends went away for my 40th in Nov. I lost inches from exercising, which I've been doing since 1984 but I eat like a linebacker and "Yes" exercising is the only thing that will "rev up your metabolism" as we get older. I was disappointed that I went on vacation at 175lbs and gained during the holidays up to 184 lbs. on Jan. 1 2005. I've been a low at 135 lbs. and as high as 186 lbs. The only differs now at 184 lbs. is that I have been exercising at an all time high. But I want to lose weight and I am going to follow the Dr. Phil "Staying Alive in 2005" I want to be a healthy women at 40. I want to change my thinking and my approach to food and I need help with the NIGHT TIME FIGHT OR FRIGHT. I love to have brownies or suz-q's at night. I find this website helpful but know I can't do this every night. So I'm thinking of other things. Going to the local library with the kids (14 boy & 11 girl) so they can do their homework. No food there, and I can read, write or do homework if I'm taking a college course. I want to eat heathly and make healthier choices in food for 2005.

It sounds like you have the right mind set. Exercise is certainly the key for me. I used to walk 3 miles 5 days a week with some friends but then I changed job and 5:30 am was too late to get started so I quit without getting another plan. I just bought a gazelle and am hoping to work up to 30 min. in the morning. I did 20 today and I'm feeling it. Popcorn is my weekness in the evening and wine when I'm preparing dinner.

I, too, was hoping to be fit and 40, but I'm not. I turn 41 at the end of the month and really want to get fit this time. I know if I could lose the weight, I could maintain. I need to lose 60, but my body stops at 7 and won't budge! Perhaps chatting with you and others who understand will help (my parents are very fit, and are of no help). The sad thing is I could write a book on nutrition; I know what to do, but the cravings are uncontrollable! I love bakery products. It's hard to cook in my family because one child is a vegetarian, one is a red-meat-only carnivore, and the other child only eats chicken (at least my husband isn't too difficult). Let's do this together!

km440ri, I can relate. I have 5 kids 2 of which have type 1 diabetes. You would think because I have to cook healthy for them it wouldn't be so complicated for me to follow. I don't think it's so much what I eat but how much. Even clearing the dinner table I probably add 400 calaries to my meal. I have been exercising everyday since the day after Christmas but have seen no change on the scale. I weighed in with a friend last Wednesday at 190, I would like to lose 20 lbs by mid March. Do you think this is possible?

I think your idea of a support group for the 40ish who want to be fit is a wonderful idea. Perhaps we can set up Intant Messaging or chat (I'd have to ask my children how!) I need all the support I can get. Especially during a week or so each month when cravings are out of control.

I just wanted to let you know that I tried to set up a place for the 40ish crowd per many of the wants that I read off the message board, but I guess that it wouldn't get past the moderators since I don't see it on the message boards. Sorry guys, I tried. Anyone who wants to email me direct can do so at ksdlg@juno.com. We can at least become support buddies directly that way.

Hello, I am also approaching 40 and was hoping to be fit, not fat by 40!
However, I am still fat and having a heck of a time sticking with a plan as well as exercise regime! I am only 5 feet 2 inches and now weigh 210 lbs. Yikes! Way too much for my "short" self! Since 1999, I have gained 35 lbs. I keep thinking if only I had lost 35 lbs. over that time, that would be 35 lbs. less I'd have to lose now!
Maybe all of us 40 year olds can form some sort of support network and really do this. We can become fit not fat at 40!!
Looking forward to hearing more from you all!

Hi, I am new to all this computer stuff, but would love to form a support group! "Fit not fat at 40" is a great title. How do we go about doing this? I have been trying to eat sensibly and exercise 20 min. everyday. Next week I plan on exercing 30 min. everyday. I got a new Gazzelle and started working out on it Tuesday, I can't have the tension set for resistance yet, so that is a goal also.

Hey brenda, You can count me in witht he support group Fit nit Fat at 40!! Great name!!
I am not exactly sure how to go about starting this group either but I'm sure there's someone out there who's more compter savvy than we are!!!! LOL Perhaps they can give some advice on this!
Are you also the mother of 5 children? Just thought the 5 in your user name might mean that!
I am a member of Curves but haven't been getting there alot lately. You're supposed to get there at least 3x per week and I've been getting there only twice and not doing any other exercise to compensate. I'll be honest, I am a total couch potatoe, especially at night and once I settle into my comfy swivel rocker after supper, I do not want to move! Only to go to the fridge or cupboard!! Sad I know but true!
I always promise myself to exercise but when the time comes I always have excuses or am just too darn lazy to do it! Honestly, what I need is Dr. Phil living here with me to kick me in the butt every minute of everyday!! I am not self motivated at all and my willpower is non existent.
Even though I've been attending Curves for almost a year now I haven't lost any weight and the inches I first shed are slowly making their way back!
I find it so hard to change my bad eating patterns that I've had all my life. I have put on 35 lbs. in the last 6 years, which is awful. Now I am struggling to lose these 35 extra lbs. plus more.
I am so frustrated with myself and it is reflecting on my family as well. I am down most of the time, tired, listless, have no interest in anything other than sitting, watching t.v. and eating. I am not setting a good example for my children and I really want to change that! Maybe we can do this together.
                          Karen
