      Carla,

What a sweet message of encouragement. I am so humbled by the response that we are getting from everyone. You are right that it helps so much to have the entire family involved in this. I have tried many times over losing wieght on my own, and it just wasn't working. Having an entire family working together on something...no matter what the end goal is...brings a sense of bonding, and memories that will last a life time. We are so grateful to be doing this together!!

      Have a great day!!

Congratulations to Carole on your big "win" of 90 pounds!!! I would like to know your stratagy and how you incorporated Dr. Phil's plan into your own life...I am a 60+ grandma of two who needs to lose about 50 pounds by June...so I can live to enjoy my grandkids.I am ready to start again but need all the help I can get...I do not have money to buy the book or join on line weight challenge unless it is free...I am on a food stamp of $200 a month...I also have lots of arthritis and asthma that makes exercise painful (especially in wintertime). Your help and suggestions would be a big help.

Dear Hall Family: YOU CAN DO IT...I will be watching your success...You will be MY inspiration...I watch evenings...tonight is Dec. 13...saw the show and your challenges...I welcome your input and encouragement...Keep me posted at lascott@efn.org or la_scott97477@yahoo.com

THANK YOU TO KIM FOR BEING SO HONEST ABOUT FEELING STUPID, AND LAZY. IT HIT A CORD FOR ME WHEN DR. PHIL SAID YOU WERE LAST ON THE LIST. I FEEL THE SAME WAY. I AM WORKING THROUGH THE BOOK AND LOVE ALL THE ADVICE AND IDEAS BUT I HAVE REALLY HAD A PROBLEM WITH MY SELF TALK PART AND PUTTING MYSELF ON THE LIST.I JUST KEEP FALLING BACK. AS SOON AS I HEARD ABOUT THE GOLD'S GYM OFFERING A FREE WEEK, I RAN RIGHT DOWN THERE AND BY THE TIME I GOT HOME- THERE I WENT RIGHT BACK TO THE BOTTOM OF THE LIST. I WILL BE WATCHING CLOSE TO SEE HOW YOU SOLVE SOME OF THESE ISSUES. THANK YOU AGAIN -BECKY

      Dear Becky,

My heart is connected to yours right now. It is a struggle to change the way we have thought about ourselves for so many years. This key is going to be the hardest for me to conquer, but I do believe that with God's help, it will happen.

I know there is a balance out there....I just haven't quite figured out how to do it. I do want to put other people before me in the sense that I want to serve others, most especially my family. This is very important to me because of what I value. At the same time, in order to be the best Mom, friend, spouse, employee...you name it, we have to take better care of ourselves. I have always thought that taking that kind of time was selfish...but truly it isn't. What would be more selfish would be to continue running my body (and mind) into the ground until I die an early death, or completely crack up!! Then what good am I to anyone??

Becky, thank YOU for your honesty. Just telling someone else about how you feel is a great step in the right direction. Keep working on this area...as I am...and together we will transform our minds to believe what is TRUE!

      Take care, and keep posting!!

      Kim

I want to send you encouragement and congratulations on your endeavors to better your life and health by working with Dr. Phil. I've been watching him for a long time since he was on Oprah ... he's the best and so is your choice to work with Shaklee Weightloss products. I've been a part of that company for over 25 years and I want you to know that we in the Shaklee Field organization are very proud of you. You are in excellent hands. Wishing you all best wishes for continued success and great joy in the process. Susan

    Hi Halls!
I'm really pulling for you! I am a fellow lap band recipient, and am curious about your lap band maintenance. Have you had any fills recently? Are you following the banding rules? I know the band should be a huge asset to your weight loss, and I hope you are using it as intended! I have found my support group on smartbandsters on yahoo to be VERY beneficial at keeping me on track and answering my questions.
Hope you all win! And use your band wisely!!

      Dear Cookie,

Congrats on the weight you have lost so far this year with the band. We had our bands placed last year in March, and as you saw on the show, WE did not make good choices with the band. We did get some fills, and I actually had a decent restriction for over a year, but I was sabotaging myself by drinking fluids while I was eating, and by eating the fattening stuff that went down too easily. In fact, I would say that I was eating MORE sugary foods with the band, than without it! Soo...that is my confession...I was not a good candidate for the band, and should have realized that in advance. I do believe it is a good tool for some people, and I would still endorse it...again for some people. However, as you know from being on Smart Bandsters (I haven't looked at that board in over a year) anyone with a band still has to make right choices; the band will not work on it's own.

When we were being considered to participate in Dr. Phil's challenge, we agreed to have our bands drained of the fluid so that we would be competing on an even playing field. As scary as that was, I have to tell you that this has been the best thing for me at this time. I had lost about 25 lbs with the band, but never got any further. I knew that it was mostly a mental block, but I couldn't get past it. I had been seeking a way to get past that block including praying and even went to a counselor earlier this year.

With Dr. Phil's help, I am finally making progress, both mentally and physically. I needed the other keys!! I was trying to lose weight without some ground work that needed to be laid. I'm so happy for those who have been successful with the lap band. I hope that they can be happy for me at this time too.

Thanks for posting...and do stay in touch!!

        Hi Kim,

I believe there is still some restriction if you still have your lap band in place even if there is no fill in it. This restriction may give you an advantage over the other folks who have no restriction.

I wish you all the luck and I don't think you are a "failure" at all. You just had not found what worked for you and now, perhaps with Dr Phil's 7 Keys you have found the way. As Dr Phil says, loving yourself and appreciating who you are, is the first step!

        hugs to you!

Thanks, Sue, for the encouragement. We know many people who have had great success with the Lap Band, so we only pinpoint our failure to lose weight after the operation to our own unwillingness to adopt better eating and exercise habits that our surgeon and cardiologist recommended. Dr. Phil's 7 keys has provided that in spades.

As for restriction, our personal experience is that we are now back to before our operation. I intentionally ate a 3 piece Kentucky Fried Chicken meal after my fill was taken out (and before we started the Challenge.) I also had a biscuit, cole slaw and mashed potatoes & washed it down with a large coke. It all went down just like the old days; something that was Never possible when I had a fill in place. Again, that's been our experience and may not be the same for others. I do remember our surgeon saying that we had a larger model Lap Band, so that might have made a difference as well.

        Hi again Kim!

Thanks for your reply! I actually forwarded your letter to smartbandsters since this has stirred up a lot of emails!
I think you should get to keep your fill and USE the band as it was intended!! I think it would be SO HELPFUL! Maybe once your head is in the game, you can get your band working for you! Remember, you can't lose weight eating candy all day no matter what program you are on!
I am totally behind you and your husband, Kim! But please let people know that the lap band CAN WORK, as you said. I think it is a GREAT tool for most people!
BTW, your girls are BEAUTIFUL! And I wish them the best of luck, too!
Your family is awesome and I'm sure that's why they chose you.
        Good luck again!

Wow, Kim you are about my same height and weight and when I heard you on the show I thought that is how I feel! I also deal with past molestation, feelings of being lazy and unworthy. Do you ever feel a little scared of loosing the weight? I do. I am so excited to watch your progress. I am going to the gym tomorrow morning because I want to do this with you. I also have two girls (mine are 3 and 10 months). I want to get our family on track so that this is never an issue they have to deal with. Thanks for inspiring me.

      Dear Karoleana,

Yes...I definitely deal with some fears about losing weight. In fact, just this week some of those old fears were creeping back up...but I shot them down!! Those types of things are LIES that we have believed for some reason. This issue came up during the taping of the second show, so you will have an opportunity to see it then. For now I can tell you that with the past that you and I have had, it is a normal reaction to use something to try and draw a barrier between us and the opposite sex.

You will be an inspiration to your daughters as you deal with this now rather than later. Good decision to go to the gym too! I'm proud of you for doing it now, and not waiting until after the holidays!! You go girl!!

By the way... we actually have three daughters, but our oldest is in college, and she is very thin!! We hope that we can bring her to one of the shows in the future because we are equally proud of her too, and we just don't quite feel complete sometimes without her there with us. Besides, she will have a blast being with her sisters and us in LA for a day!

Let us know how much you need to lose, and keep us posted on your progress. We want to CELEBRATE with every success!

      -Kim
        Looking forward to a celebration!

Kim, Thank you so much for the encouragement. I bet your oldest is sooo proud of all of you! I can't wait to hear about some of the strategies you learned to deal with the fear. I have been overweight all my life but I hit my highest weight about 3 years ago at 250lbs. I have managed, over the past 2 years, to struggle down to 210lbs (which I am very proud of) and now I have 75lbs to go. The past two year have been spent having success, getting scared, backing off, gaining a little, getting remotivated and trying again. I want to go all the way this time! When Dr. Phil told you that you could take off 72lbs by Feb. I thought wow, is that possible? What would it be like to be at my goal weight by Feb.? I am almost afraid to dream that high. You and I, along with are families, are totally going to do it though!

Basically we started this in mid October. We actually have about 17 weeks to get to goal. As for dealing with the fear...I'm still working on it. The main thing for me is to take these fears to the Lord, and ask Him to give me strength and peace. When I do that, I have to let go of that fear and move forward. When I don't do that...I just stagnate! Obviously you are beginning to see that I use my faith in the process of dealing with these types of issues.

As you go through this journey with me, you will come across other ways to deal with these things, and I welcome you sharing them with us!!

          Blessings,

          Kim

I was over my parents house today and saw the show with your family on it. I would like to extend my encouragement prayers and support to your family in this challenge of a life time. I would also like to extend a special encouragement to Grace. I heard your story about your friends "dating" guys and the desire of wonting to have that. "You will" have that joy of experiencing it remember it’s not what you look like it’s what’s in your heart that counts, and never foget that. Keep Your Head Up Grace, and the same to all of the Hall family "You Can and WILL Do This, I have faith in all of you :-)". God Bless,
