You lost 90 lbs, what courage and stick to itness you have. It is obvious that you read and worked through the keys. You deserve to be featured every day of your life. I am so proud of you, Carole. It is wonderful to go to the gym with your husband as Vic and I go together. It really gives us a special bond to each others and health. I love it. You know the smile part is the hardest part sometimes isn't it? I have to tell myself, you are going to the gym, it is only one hour of your day, and sometimes I have to remind myself of that in the middle of my workout. But, most days I just go because it is the right and good thing to do.
You take care and thanks so much for your words of support and for being such a great example to others.

When I heard you speak today on the Dr. Phil, it was as if you were almost telling my story. I too at one time weighed 164 and I am 5'2. I am about 135 right now. It is a constant battle, I want to loose at least 10 more pounds and learn to maintain it. I too lost my mom to suicide at the age of 3 and my dad to cancer at the age of 10. The minute I became a mom, I think I put my issues aside and just focused on being a full-time wife and mom. Along the way I somehow forgot about nurturing myself and didn't require more of myself. I too feel like a failure, eventhough I have thee best husband and children I could ever asked for. I feel I have failed them as a role-model. Pennie, I think that with you telling yourself that you are a failure as a mom is a negative way of thinking but on the other hand it at least lets me know that you are trying to find a remedy to something that you know can be fixed, you just don't have the tools to do it.

Let's talk about the weight first. Have you worked through the 7 keys? Do you have Dr. Phil's book? If you have let's do it again. You have got to get that right thinking and emotional healing done. You deserve it and you deserve it now. You know on Dr. Phil's show I said "I am not worth it" But after I got home and really thought about it the phrase I would use that would really describe how I think is " I am not enough". That is what I have told myself for years and that is just not right. I want you to find out what it is that you are telling yourself and correct it. You sound like a wonderful person with great personal strength. This other 10 lbs is Not going to be a problem for you. You can join with me and we can do it together. I have some catching up to do, you are far ahead of me but, I will and you will. Deal?. Let's do this thing together. You find out what you are telling yourself and I will catch up>>> Forward movement, let's leave the weight both physical and mental behind!! We do have the tools to do this, The Ultimate Weight Loss Challenge book, the 7 keys. You are going to learn to nuture yourself. In doing that you will nuture your family. To long we women have put ourselves on the back burner. Let's get on the front burner and sart cooking.
I am going to the gym this morning, are you??? Let's go!!

I have not worked through the 7 keys. No, I don't have the book, I do have the cookbook which has wonderful recipes. I totally get where you are coming from when you say that you fell that "you are not enough". I feel that I am not living up to my potential. I have as a wife and mother but not as for myself. I have lost faith in myself to accomplish my dreams. To finish college and start a career. I am in an emotional rut. I have a wonderful husband who supports me and loves me regardless. It is me that is brainwashing myself. My weight has fluctuated over the last 4 years between 142 and 125. I have been maintaining 135 for about 1 year now. I know what is needed to lose weight (excersise and nutrition wise) I regularly work out at least 4-6 times a week. Cardio has always been my favorite, but the key is in the weights. It helps to burn fat faster, it is just a matter of requiring more of myself to do it. My whole family goes to the gym, I normally go with my husband. Pennie I wish you all the strength you can muster to reach your goal weight but most importantly inner faith in yourself to accomplish what you wish. It is way easier for me to give people advise and the push but for some reason I don't require it of myself.

You have got to do this for yourself. No one can do it for you. The 7 keys will work you through that. It is time for you and me and all the women like us to stand tall and be who we were made to be.

Thank you Pennie for your encouraging words. I hope all is well with yourself and family. Holiday time is always the most challenging time to maintain a healthy lifestyle. I hope your boys are hanging in there. I know they can do it, especially if the whole family is involved. How are your workouts coming along? Since emailing you the first time, I have made a commitment to 45 minutes of cardio 5x a week and 45 minutes of free weights at least 4x a week. I have noticed a difference in inches.

I bet you have noticed a difference in inches.
Yes, you hit it right on the head. Holiday time is a difficult time to commit to get in shape and stay on a plan for success. We are all doing fine though. It is harder, I think on the guys because they are out with their friends who are eating the holiday fare. Celebrations at the office for Vic have been hard but, he just stays away from the area where the snacks are. I find the difficult times when I go shopping and all the pretty candies and good smelling baked goods are out for easy consumption. I always make sure I eat before I go out and have a fruit in the car in case I am gone long enough to get hungry again.

My fiance' and I were watching Dr. Phil today, and this was the best time for both of us to be in front of the Television!
Your story inspired me Justine) especially as I Never had to diet because I was always thin. Later in life I started to take medication and this caused weight gain. I consider myself to be Motivated, and I belong to Family Fitness, and I have a Great Track right by our house where I have walked before. I have it all, except a buddy!!!!
I have my walking clothes all laid out, and I say I will walk, and sometimes set the alarm, and go back to bed. I use to be out there every day, faithfully, and I have even lost 50 lbs this year just by watching my eating habits. I want the exercise though, and to come down a size and lose that 50 more lbs. You guys are a hugh motivation for me, so I hope I can get myself rolling?? Any ideas on getting a buddy, as I don't have many friends here? Thanks and keep up the Great work and WIN!!!!!!

Dear Penningtons:
Yesterday my husband sat and watched his very first episode of the Dr. Phil show and I am so glad that it was the episode that showed your family beginning the Family Weight Loss Challenge because now he is motivated to lead *my* family in a weight loss, which we definitely need.
We also have 2 teenaged boys and it has bothered me for years that, as the wife and mom, I can't seem to keep us at a healthy weight. Our family will be joining you together in this challenge and I look forward to seeing LESS of all of us in the coming months. :)

Wow....Yesterday while watching the Dr.Phil show the Pennington family really hit home for me. I am a 37y single mom...I have been for the past 10y...and sruggle everyday with being a failure...I truly feel that because of my appearance " Over weight " I couldn't keep their dad from straying...My whole life I have been over weight and even my own mother reminded me daily how hard my life would be even at the age of 12y because I wasn't thin like I should be.. I too feel like a failure. I want to thank the Dr. Phil show for finding the Pennington family..I can related to each one of you. I support your efforts and I will be using your family for my own gratification to change my life style. I want to be a new single mom...One that wins...so go get them Penningtons.....I am with you all the way...Beth

Beth, Beth, Beth,
I am so proud of you! You are taking the first steps to an all new you. People who love us tooo often remind us of the very obvious and painful truth. They want us thin and healthy but, do not understand their words hurt and not help us. We have to have that Circle of Support, Key 7, to keep us moving.
No more negative words to ourselves. huh? I won't if you won't! We are not failures, we are Moms. Nuturers of the world. Beautiful creations with a special gentleness to be enjoyed. Now I know it is hard to say that to yourself but, that is what we are. Let's start building on that! Women are beautiful creatures both in and out. Let's start recognizing that. There is nothing more beautiful than a woman with a child in the act of nuturing. There is just a glow there. You know, you have seen it. I love to watch mothers with their children. So, you are a Mom and thereby beautiful. Let's start there.
Come with us, let's become successes together,

It's easy at first to correct your thinking, then as life goes by I seem to fall into the old patterns once again. Keeping it on your mind front all the time is very difficult. What do you do to keep your thinking on track?
I think that what you are doing is wonderful and if you can get the whole family to do it, that's just remarkable. My husband and I disagree too much to be united in losing weight together, he says he's losing as he drinks the chocolate milk shake.
I'd like to lose the 80lbs of weight I don't need. I'm joining with you. I'm changing our environment to do so,( my husband doesn't really mind as long as there is something to eat in the house). If there is nothing in the Low-Response Cost, Low-Yield Foods in the house he'll eat the High-Response, High-Yield Foods- as long as he can eat he's happy. So I guess it's up to me to begin and have him follow. He's also very overweight and can stand to lose about 60lbs.

Wow, Thanks a million for taking the time to give me support and encouragement. I work 16 hour days for 7 days and the past few have been rough. Seems like the norm lately. Even though I moved back to my home town my family moved 600 miles away so I am on my own without much help when needed. I don't know how I have made it this far sometimes I feel like I can't do it tomorrow all over again. Then I look at my beautiful daughters whom I was blessed with and tell myself they need me. You are so right about being a mom and I know deep down somewhere I am the best single mom there is. I try to remond myself when I can. But it is so darn hard when things fall apart, days fly by, and life doesn't stop for nothing to catch my breath. I still feel like I put my girls on this roller coaster ride because I was not good enough for their dad. I feel like I am not good enough for anyone especially myself. After 10y of pain I still need time to heal, but doing it alone and on rough waters is difficult. I am climbing on board and I want to suceed for me. I cried today when I read your message, Someone I have never met cares and understands and supports me. Thank you, I saw a flicker of light today.......:o)......Beth

Didn't get a chance to watch the show yesterday, but know that i'm with you all the way. In my family, i'm the one that needs to lose the weight. I'm 5'11 and weigh around 200 lbs. You know you lose weight and then you put it back on,and more so. I know my husband loves me,but he also make these comments. Probably hoping that I'll do something about my weight. Well it's time I do. I'm with you. Pam

Pam
